Post by RBranch's Gun Works Fri Dec 14, 2018 7:09 pm

Hello I'm just starting out with this type of shooting and looking for opinions . I'm shooting a 9mm Caspian frame 1911 Govt with a 1:32 KKM fitted barrel bomar adjustable Sights based on what I know I'm sticking with 115 gr bullets , Seirra Tournament Master, Hornady HAP , Hornady XTP . Looking for any other suggestions for pojos and preferably tried and trued load data etc. TIA

1-32 twist KKM best 50YD accuracy (<1") was (115gr XTP or HAP) 5.0 gr VV330  and tied for 2nd (1.25") was 4.8 VV320 or 5.4 WSF.  1.090" OAL

Not enough data to say any of the 3 powders was really any better.

ADDED on 12/15
Isabel over on TargetTalk is using 5.0 of VV340, I've never tried it.

I'VE DONE A LOT OF RANSOM REST TESTING WITH THE 9MM.  OAL LENGTH FOR ME  WAS 1.142". ALL OF THESE WERE UNDER 1.5" AT 50 YDS. THE TOP 2 WERE UNDER AN INCH.
BEST POWDER
1ST.  VV330 5.0 GR
2ND. VV320 4.8 GR
3RD. WSF    5.3 GR
BEST BULLET
1ST.  XTP 115 OR 124 GR
2ND. HAP 115 OR 121(OLD WEIGHT DON'T KNOW IF THEY MAKE IT ANYMORE)
3RD. 115 ZERO CONICAL, SIERRA 115JHP

AND FOR THE OD 1/16" BBL; 147GR XTP WITH EITHER 4.2GR VV330, 0R 4.0GR WSF, OAL AGAIN 1.142" BOTH OF THESE LOADS WERE VERY SOFT SHOOTING FOR A 9MM. THE 147 GR BULLETS IN A 1/32" BBL WOULD KEYHOLE AT 25YDS. JP

If we seek guns that shoot 1” to 1.5” at 50 yards they’ll group that or better at 25 yards. It’s half the distance and the group hasn’t opened up yet. I wouldn’t worry about 25 yards when data has been tested at 50 yards. You’ll be fine.

IF YOUR ONLY DOING 25YDS. TRY THESE BULLETS. . IF YOU ORDER 2K AT A TIME, THEY COST ONLY 8.5 CENTS A PIECE DELIVERED. 3" AT 50YDS BUT ONE HOLE AT 25YDS. JP

You could also try Penn's 9mm 115 Grain H&G 68 lead Semi Wad Cutter Bevel Base. Drop the powder charges about 10% verses the JHP loads. You might even be able to go a little lighter.

With a 1:32 twist, you gotta drive 'em fast ~1100 fps.  The KKM barrel is a good one and will be accurate.  6.0 - 6.5 Power Pistol is a top performer.  Recoil is quite snappy, more so than a 45.

another vote for power pistol vs other powders in my ransom rest testing the groups really opened up after 50 yards. at 200 yards power pistol was at least 30% smaller than even the vv powders.
also 115 xtp and 115 hap are the most accurate bullets.
