Obsolete Hornady .314 90gr lead bullets
Are the now obsolete Hornady .314 WC bullets any good in a factory barreled Benelli pistol? I'm going to a gun show tomorrow, and there is a dealer there that has about 8 boxes of 400 count that he has never been able to sell. I think I can pick them up cheap, but won't if they will not work for me. Anyone know if these bullets measure a true .314? Thanks.

I advertised some here a year or so ago for a similar dealer in old bullets. There was quite a bit of interest and they sold pretty quickly. So my guess is they shoot ok, but as I don’t shoot 32, I wouldn’t know directly.

They are a good 314 bullet, not H&N quality but good.
I would buy them.
I would buy them.

I have a few boxes. I shot them in a Benelli and a Pardini. They shot better than any cast bullet I tested. They would hold the ten ring off of a rest.

I was given some to try in my Benelli. Might have cut it for 25 yards but not for 50.

Bill,
It was most likely 1.8 of Bullseye in a once fired, unsized Lapua case. This is my go to load for H&N bullets and more recently, Zane's swaged Speer bullets.

I used 1.55gr N310 with a little of the nose of the bullet above the case mouth. COL was .966. Don't get me wrong, the H&N's are superior but at the time I came across these Hornady's all I could find were cast WC's. I tested them all. Magnus tested the best but I would still get an eight or seven ring flyer here and there. I have a little over 3000 H&N's. When they are gone I'll get the bumped up Speers. Since I only use the H&N's for the long line they should last me awhile. I have an APC conversion but I like shooting the S&WL more.

Well that didn't work out as planned. The dealer with the Hornady WC bullets wasn't at the gun show today. Guess I'll have to stick with Bear Creek bullets. Strange thing at the gun show today. Only one table had Winchester small pistol primers, and only two boxes. Every one else said the primers are on back order. The guy that did have two boxes must have known about the temporary outage, because he had them priced at $39 / 1000. Regularly they sell for $29 to 31 in this area. So I bought a box of CCI for $27.

Greetings,
I have learned the hard way that the "Just in time" business model does not work for shooters.
Be a smart shooter and have at least one years supply of 22lr and reloading components.
Should you find stuff on sale, buy some extra. You can always sell the excess later on when you decide to take up golf.
Cheers,
Dave

Smart. I just noticed I'm down to 2000 rounds of CCI-SV. Time to order a case, or even two.
