9MM 124 XTP Loads
After searching there does not seem to be a lot of 124gr data. Looking for a good starting point for a new 1911 9mm. Due to current shortages I have the usual 45 powders, 231, TG, BE, Universal, WST. I did find 1lb of Sport Pistol. So no PP or V320. My barrel is a 1/16 twist. Also, OAL seems to be all over the place. Thanks in advance.

Re: 9MM 124 XTP Loads
FWIW my Hornady manual, 7th Edition, has 11 powders listed for the 124 gr XTP. Personally I use a lot of Unique (and Universal) and my manual lists 4.0 gr.(900 fps) to 5.0 gr. (1100 fps) for the 124 FTX...

I have never had any sort of accuracy from any powder faster than AA5 and the best to date is Power Pistol.
I wish I had a pistol that did well with something like Bullseye, but I don't. Between two CZ-75s and two 1911s, they all like Power Pistol be best.

Of the powders you have, Universal Clays would be the one I’d try first. I would try 3.8 to 4.2 and I wouldn’t go any higher without talking to Hornady or Hodgdon first.

I've had good results with 5.2gr True Blue. Nosler lists it as the most accurate powder with 124's.

I tried 4.0 of BE and it will hold 9 ring at 50 yards. Recoils pretty smooth. I am using 1.110 for OAL.

WST & 9mm with a 124 or 125 JHP. 3.6 - 3.9 gr with an OAL of not longer than 1.100". If you have a chrono, running them 1020 - 1070 fps should be good load.

Are you running a lower weight spring with a load that light?
