Oehler 35P Chronograph Replacement? Empty Oehler 35P Chronograph Replacement?

Post by beeser Sat Dec 26, 2020 6:19 pm

I have an Oehler 35P chronograph that works great but is a chore to set up.  Is there an equally functioning replacement that's easier to use?

My vote goes to LabRadar.  I have two Oehlers, and probably can count less than ten times I used them.  There are two reasons behind that: first is stated by OP and second is that without modifications 35P doesn't work at indoor ranges.  LabRadar can be setup in about two minutes, and I have had no issues using it indoors.

I have both a Caldwell with sky screens and a Labradar.  I prefer the Labradar.

I have a Chrony that I might be willing to part with.  Entertaining offers.  Please note that the Chrony will not support 38 Super.

I have a 20 year old pact that works well, but takes some time to setup. My new Labradar however sets up in a minute and saves data to an SD card... takes a bit to learn how to use it, but once you do... life is easy...

Always hated it when a chrony goes bad, attacks without provocation, and has to be put down.

The LabRadar looks easier to set up and seems like it would do the job but it has some miserable reviews.  Was this for only the early production and the bugs have been worked out?

Yeah- I think you're going to need a bigger skyscreen.  That wasn't rolled out to 50yds, was it? Smile

I've had my Labradar a year.  No bugs; works fine.  But the user interface is not intuitive and the manual is not particularly well laid out either.  Pay close attention to the Quick Start sheet and you should be okay.  I think some of the negative reviews were from people who got lost in the user interface.  Just my opinion.

I've made mine work at all ranges i can shoot at, including for air pistols. There are several settings that MUST be adjusted for optimum performance, but in my opinion, after using magneto speed, pact (skyscraper model) and Labradar, there is nothing better than the labradar. if you are the least bit technical, you'll have no problem getting it running

I have a Chrony, Magneto Speed and now a LabRadar.  The LabRadar is the best of the bunch, but the Magneto Speed is  better in some situations.  The LabRadar is more complex to work with and can have difficulty with .22's, but my biggest problem with it is getting it "aimed" properly.  Once dialed in though it is the best of the bunch.  My Chrony was just an overall pain in the butt to work with and almost never worked well unless Jupiter and Mars were lined up just right.

So how well is it working now that Jupiter and Saturn are in near-alignment?  clown

Not good Asa Yam, it MUST be Jupiter and Mars!  Saturn will not allow it to function in place of the Red Planet....
