Dry fire question

When dry fire practicing with my Colt govt. model, can I just cock the hammer or should I be racking the slide between shots? Someone recommended racking the slide is better for the gun. Thanks.

Holding the trigger back is better for the gun, regardless of how the hammer is cocked. Racking the slide will wear the frame to slide fit. Probably not as much as firing, but a little.

If you wear out a gun by dry firing, CONGRATULATIONS! You are one of the very few shooters who dry fire enough.

I just cock the hammer, thats all racking the slide does, why add all the other parts into the wear process.

If you rack the slide during dry fire practice it helps you learn the sear reset & reinforce not getting off the trigger for a running start
