32 s&w long starting load

I will be picking up my Hammerli sp20 pistol whenever the chief of police gives his ok.   
My question is i am looking for a starting load with a 89 grain wadcutter. At this point all i am looking for is a load that will work the action so i can have some fun the first time out. I only compete against myself at this point in my life because of age and medical issues. i can work on accuracy loads next time. For powder i have bullseye red dot green dot accurate #2 Winchester 231. thanks Joe G

Thanks a lot i was not sure and was thinking of trying 1.5 gr but flat was not sure. i will use the 1.7 load as i want the action to work.    i am really looking forward to playing with it.   joe g. Eastern Washington state

Be aware that the SP-20 has either a Standard Recoil Spring or a Heavy Recoil Spring.

The Heavy one works well with ammo around 730 FPS and above.

Softer ammo, 700 FPS or lower, works well with the Standard Spring set.

Also, keep an eye on the small buffer inside the frame. If it is the old metal one, they fail. The newer design is a two piece plastic/foam arrangement.

Last, do not tighten the grip screw too much. It attaches to the trigger housing and if torqued to high it will break through. Finding a new housing will be challenging.

thanks a lot. the pistol came with extra springs but i have no idea how to tell them apart. i dont actually have the pistol as waiting for chief of police to say i am not a mass murder question how do i tell them apart for heavy and light. thanks

Use caliper and measure the recoil spring wire diameter. Smallest diameter obviously the lighter spring.
