Shot process

I have only shot one match, and im still fairly low on the clime up the hill to proficiency . One thing I don't have, and need to work on is a shot process. I found this in the AMU pistol manual on line, and figured it was a good place to start.

The following sequence is recommended for slow fire:

a. Extend arm and breathe.

b. Settle into a minimum arc of movement.

c. Pick up sight alignment in the aiming area.

d. Take up trigger slack - apply initial pressure.

e. Hold breath.

f. Maintain sight alignment and minimum arc of movement.

g. Start positive trigger pressure.

h. Concentrate point focus on front sight.

i. Follow through. (Occurs with surprise shot only) (No reflex action)

3. The following sequence is recommended for timed and rapid:

a. Extend shooting arm and breathe.

b. Find sight alignment.

c. Find aiming area on edge of target frame (final deep breath).

d. Settle into minimum arc of movement.

e. Point focus of front sight (Partly release breath).

f. Take up slack - apply initial trigger pressure.

g. Maintain sight alignment (target faces).

h. Start positive trigger pressure.

i. Concentrate on sight alignment (first shot is fired).

Im pretty sure, that as a shooter grows, and improves their shot process changes a bit to meet what works for them. So how did you all start out? If this a good process to start with? Things I should add to it? Any help getting this all down would be great!

When I really got into a good groove with my wheelguns, my sequence (for timed and rapid fire) was keyed to the commands:

"On the line, with [a magazine and] five rounds, Load!" (use speedloader or moonclip or just loose rounds to insert rounds into chambers, align first loaded chamber at 1'o'clock (S&W), close cylinder, lock into place, check first loaded chamber at 1'o'clock[, grin and wonder "what's a 'magazine'?"])
"Is the line ready?"
"The line is ready." (look at edged targets)
"Ready on the right." (cock hammer; first loaded chamber is now under the hammer)
"Ready on the left." (raise gun, finger lightly on trigger, alight sights/dot, start aiming at the edged target)
"Ready on the firing line."

During the string of fire, my process would be a little like a BASIC program:
10 move aligned sights/red dot to desired aiming point
20 increase pressure on trigger. 
30 follow-through.
40 count 1 (2, 3, 4, 5)
50 if counted to 5, goto END
60 finger off trigger
70 cock hammer
80 finger on trigger
90 goto 10
END unload cylinder

The AMU is an excellent starting point. As you shoot more matches you will develop your own shot process, which will include both your physical as well as mental actions.

John, you have to say "PRINT" after that line to get anything out of a TRS-80.
