Distinguished loads - Shooting Lighter Loads on Hardball Empty Shooting Lighter Loads on Hardball

Post by BElito Thu 12 Mar - 1:16

Hello, everyone.

With the new rules for Distinguished Pistol no longer requiring hardball loads, I am considering lighter loads on my Les Baer .45 Hardball.

Les Baer Customer Service recommended first changing my recoil spring from the current 15 lbs to 13 lbs.

I have only BE powder.  Is it worth trying out 200 grain SWC at 3.8-4.0 grains BE?

Sure why not.  As for springs,  get a Wolff set from 16 down to 14…

Belito,
Try either Nosler or Zero 185jhp's (or equivalent) WLP primers and 4.2g Bullseye. The rounds should have an oal of 1.220" and a crimp of .469-.470".
Try the ammo with the springs you have first! If it locks the slide back on the last shot of the magazine you are all set.

Keep in mind that a SWC bullet is not allowed for EIC matches.  It has to be a jacketed bullet.
