Best .45 to .22 conversion? - Page 2 Empty Best .45 to .22 conversion?

First topic message reminder :

I've saved my nickels and want to go to one grip/trigger etc for my BE work.

If I were to buy ONCE and CRY once, which unit would you buy?  And if you have the time, please tell me why.
Also, advise me as to which ones to avoid for accuracy and functioning problems.

Thanks guys, Perry is coming and outdoor practice is happening with the warmer weather. Very Happy

So I can thin the wonderful AA mags, or find another lower.  Suggestions on a lower cost 45 as base for AA Target?

Mac

I don't think thinning the mags would help. I found the ATI mags to be about .030 thinner than a GI mag. The problem may be with the magazine release holding the mag too high.

Best .45 to .22 conversion? - Page 2 Empty Thanks and more on AA's magazines

Dear James and group:   I will look into that possibility.  Thank you.  The ATI "GI" 4.25 in 45 ACP my good wife found fun to shoot!  And it has a reasonable trigger and accuracy - so it is a keeper.
Further testing found:
AA's wonderful 22 magazine is happy to be used with: Colt 1911A1 (C1xxxxx series made between wars); Springfield RO Champion (45ACP, 4 inch, lightweight); and Springfield Range Officer.  Snug in a Sistema Colt 1927 made in Argentina.  Will not fit: ATI "GI" 45ACP commander size 1911 made in Philippins.  The latter accepts most 1911 34ACP magazines, but not all of them.  The latter is happy with Kimber 22 magazines.

No.  I am not willing to give up my RO Champion as lower for AA Target conversion.

Thanks again for the suggestion.    Mac2

Dear Davekp:  Interesting indeed.  The mag that came with the "GI" was made in Italy and seems to be of excellent quality.
Binding of the AA 22 magazines in the "GI" starts well before reaching the magazine release.   A few seconds of thought says it is far better to find the right lower than to mess with the otherwise wonderful AA magazines.        Thanks,   Mac2
