YI'm fixin to make up some lighter loads for my 625.  Shot my auto loads least week 3.8 BE 200 gr swc. I feel I could do better on short line with maybe 3.2????  Your experiences and thoughts appreciated.

My Dad used to shot a 25. His pet load was 3.4 and 3.2 for practice using a Magus Style 801 bullet and auto-rim brass.

For the long line he used 3.5.

One thing to consider is that very light loads might stick a bullet in the barrel of a revolver even though it might clear in an auto even with a failure to cycle.

Over 2gn of bullseye it won't squib if it is roll crimped. It may fly out of the barrel at 150fps and bounce down range but it should work.

That is one reason why we use ECI's that stick out of the barrel.

I like a stouter load for my Model 625 at 50 yards: 4.5gr W231 or AA#2 under a 200gr LSWC.

For 25 yards, I use 185gr LSWC bullets over the same 4.5gr W231 or AA#2, seated to the same OAL - makes for a lighter-recoiling load. I need to move the sights down four clicks for the short-line with the 185gr bullets + 4.5gr powder. If I use the 200gr bullets + 4.5gr powder at the short line, I'll need to move the sights down eight clicks.

Anything lighter than 185gr bullet/4.0gr powder will produce leading somethin' fierce, at least in my guns, though they are pretty light-feeling loads. Using a heavier bullet, such as the 200gr you are thinking of using, will probably mitigate this somewhat.

4,5 w321 should be a very pleasant load

I use 3.8gr Bullseye with the 200gr bullet. It must be close to rvlvrlr load because I have to change 8 clicks from long to short like he does.

Another approach for short line loads for the S&W 625 is to lighten the bullet, not the powder charge.  The Acme 175 grain coated SWC works well for me with the same powder charge I use for 185 grain coated bullets for my 1911.
