Eley made for CMP

I got a notification last week from CMP that some Aguila .22 that I had on backorder was not going to be able to be fulfilled. The woman offered me a case of "Eley Standard Velocity 40 GR 1090FPS" for $355. I emailed back and asked which product line of Eley this was (Target, Sport, Club) and received the reply: "This is Standard Eley. You will not find it on the Eley website. It was made specifically for CMP."

Anyone tried this? Any experiences with it, good or bad?

$355 for a case of Eley seems like a good deal, as long as it's not the old purple Eley Sport (which was great at its price point, but not at $350/case).

Eley Sport was made by Aguila in Mexico, IIRC.

I opted to get a case of that 22. It performed very well in my High Standard Trophy and a John Dwoark conversion. Just shot off sandbags and using a red dot on both pistols at fifty yards and it easily held the X ring.

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic. Mine should be arriving soon.

It's 10 500-round boxes.

Each box of 500 rounds contains:

A plastic bag filled with 500 rounds of .22 ammo.

Meh... How does it shoot?

Must be top-notch if it comes in a plastic bag... That premium accessory is never included with Winchester 555 or Remington Thunderbolt boxes

If it was Eley target at that price I would take the plunge and save the money. Eley Target shoots very well in my Marvel.

This reminds me of SK Standard that comes in bulk. The shorter Pringles tube. It also shoots well in all my .22's.
Since many of us here don't shoot 10x shortline or 100 on the long line even if we were using Tenex I think this stuff will not hurt my score. Maybe just check for obviously deformed bullets while loading.

from a CMP employee, Is made in england, specifically for cmp It was offered to folks who had a 22 back order from 2012-2014 first. When that's filled it will be open to public.

It is made in England, and lovingly handled by Federal Express personnel from Eastaboga, Al., to Menlo Park, Ca.

Jon, if it shoots great it will make us wonder why we paid the price for perfection all these years.

I shot 100-8x SF with Federal AutoMatch bulk ammo! That stuff shot .6" from Ransom in my Marvel longslide with barrel cut/crowned flush with slide. Bulk is fine if your gun likes it!

The box says 1090 for velocity.  
I'm used to seeing Eley at 1080.
Must be really special.

This stuff shoots, though. It runs like a raped ape in my .22LR AR (which is more finicky than any of my bullseye pistols), and I shot a 9mm center-to-center 10-shot group with it prone at 50 feet.

Caveat #1: 50'. Yeah, I know. But I'm more interested if it's good value at the price point, so 50' is a good enough indicator for what I'm looking for.
Caveat #2: I am not a particularly good prone shooter.

I have yet to shoot it in a pistol, but based on early returns I would probably buy more at $355/case.

See, there was a good reason you saved all those CCI plastic .22 boxes!

Here is a 20-shot group of 4 strings of rapid fire at 50 feet. Functions well. Haven't tried it beyond 50' yet.
