2x scope - Trying a new scope Empty Trying a new scope

Post by LenV Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:58 pm

I have been wondering what a 2X scope with a red dot would shoot like. I have been thinking my old eyes might like a little help. These are not "Aimpoints" and I have no idea what the parallax is going to be like with magnification. Since I have assigned myself the mission of testing just about everything else I thought I had better check one out. I will be reporting shortly on their pros and cons. Mine should be here Thurs. The price is right if it works out. If not then I'm not out a bunch. Anyone ever try one of these scopes?

Not that one but I have tried the 2x scope with cross hairs,  It's the one we use when we ransom rest a pistol, all the movement made me dizzy.  I just tried to ignore the movement and trust my hold, I actually shot it pretty well.  One thing I noticed, but I'm not sure it was totally due to using the 2x scope, I was mentally very tired after that range session.

I have improved my benchrest shooting by mounting a 2X scope with cross hairs on my 9mm 5" revolver.  I think I'd prefer crosshairs over a red dot just because it seems to line up better on the target.  I've barely begun to evaluate this new addition so I've got another month of shooting to make a definitive conclusion, including off hand.  Thus far the 2X mag does not seem to wander on the target at 25 yds. any worse than the negative mag on the Matchdot II at the same yardage.  My next range visit will be a 50 yd. evaluation.  It's a dirty job but.............

I have the first report. It is heavy. But not too heavy. It weighs 9.4 oz without lens covers. That puts it right between an Aimpoint 7000 and a 9000 with rings. In the gun room the dot looked fuzzy on higher settings but when I got out into the light and pupils contracted the dot was nice and round. It got bright enough to see easy on this super bright day. They say 99% light transfer yada yada but image was definitely darker. That might be because my glasses also darken. It was interesting that the scope had a tag on the mount screws that cautioned against tightening over 20" lbs. It will be interesting to see how it works on the range.
