Distinguished loads - Ball gun loads Empty Ball gun loads

Post by kohlerpartsgod 4/19/2018, 4:22 pm

My .45 pistol likes ball ammo, I tried loading 185gr JHP but it did not like it. Any recommendations for a good load that will work at the 50 and 25 yard. I see Berry's has 185gr round nose hollow base, anybody tried those? Thanks

I find Sierra 8815's with 4.5-4.6 of WST to be very accurate. I only shoot 230 gr bullets in my ball gun to keep in the spirit of the way the Distinguished program used to work.

4.8 Titegroup and 230 Sierras works great.  Goes the traditional match velocity too

THE SIERRA'S ARE  THE BEST AT 50 YDS. I USED 5.3GR WSF, 1.25"OAL, CRIMP .471", WINCHESTER LP, NEW BRASS FOR 50. JP

I prefer the Magnus/Zero 230gr RN. The price is also better. Magnus gives discounts to forum members. NFI

Hello kohlerpartsgod,

For me....

Starline brass
Winchester primers
4.7 grains Bullseye powder
Hornady 230 grains FMJRN (hardball) bullets
.470" crimp
1.259" overall length
790 feet per second

Very accurate in several of my guns.  Good luck.

I've never seen anyone claim to get great accuracy from plated bullets.  My RRA hardball gun likes 4.2 gr Clays with Zero 230 FMJ, .469 crimp for long line, 3.7 gr Clays for the short line.
