Make / model of pistol used at Camp Perry?
Is there a list out there on the world wide web that tells the make and model of the pistol used by the National Champion, for say, the past 50 years? Specifically the .22 pistols. There's a list of the person, but what about the equipment? Not that I have any intention of rushing out and buying a pistol just because the 2018 winner used one, I'm curious to know if there is a pattern developing.

probably the most winning 22lr is a model 41 or hi standard. AW93 probably most wins in last 20 years thanks to Zins.

It's not so much the equipment as it is the 200 lb. gorilla using the equipment.
You'll probably find that the equipment statistics mirror the shooter. If Zins is shooting the AW93, you can't say that the AW93 is winning all the competitions.
It's whatever gun works best for YOU. You can buy all the points you want, but you will have to shoot the winning ones.

I believe Mr. Zins used a M41 for many of his winning years.

Mr. Zins occasionally monitors this forum. Perhaps he'll chime in.

He will probably confirm all three were used. He might have used a 41 when he started. I know he used a 208s for many wins, and I think the FWB at the end of his active duty wins.

I am a bit surprised that the pistol companies that have winning guns at Camp Perry don't use that win to promote / sell their products. For example, if a Feinwerkbau / Hammerli / Walther / fill in the blank, was used 10 out of the past 15 years, why not use that as a selling point? Even though as mentioned above, it's more the shooter than the equipment, use the win for advertising. Something like "A Hammerli .22 pistol has been used by the champion 15 out of the past 20 years, and Hammerli has made the podium 20 of the past 20 years."
Reason I'm asking is because on another gun forum a guy just purchased a used High Standard Citation to use in competition, and is having problems with it, and now finding out how difficult it is to find parts. I suggested if he can't find a fix or can't find parts, sell it and get something that's in current production, and has support. The "High Standard-a-holics" got very defensive, and are claiming HS pistols practically fill the line at Camp Perry. Maybe they did 20-30 years ago, but I'm sure now it's much lesser.

Interarms website. Get the phone number and ask for Allan. He’ll be able to help with parts probably more than anyone else. Maybe. He was part of the Texas production guns outfit.

I agree Jason, I buy parts from his business also, and he's very interesting to talk with.Tim:H11 wrote:Interarms website. Get the phone number and ask for Allan. He’ll be able to help with parts probably more than anyone else. Maybe. He was part of the Texas production guns outfit.

I would think that a large number of 1911 .22 conversions, i.e. Marvel and Nelson, would be used at Camp Perry these days.

Probably because most Precision Pistol (Bullseye) shooters generally know it ain't the equipment, it's the operator. Why waste money advertising if it won't influence the decision process?

Check out this year's overall winner's .22 equipment.

I think that what happens at Camp Perry still affects some shooters (not necessarily bullseye shooters) when selecting equipment. Let me guess on the second comment. Is this year's .22 champion (John Zurek) still using a Marvel .22 conversion?CR10X wrote:I am a bit surprised that the pistol companies that have winning guns at Camp Perry don't use that win to promote / sell their products

which model Citation?,
if the folks at Rimfire Central, or Allan cannot help him, maybe a question on John Stimson's High Power page would generate some help,
have him try Jack First, Numrich, Brownells, and even Ebay,

Mostly likely my Dad was there as he was assigned to the Army AMU as a shooter and gunsmith both up until his retirement from the Army in October 1959. After his retirement we moved to San Antonio TX where he then went to work at the Air Force AMU as a gunsmith.
