Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 beavertail safety
Hi everyone,
I just got my pistol back from Dave Salyer and I’m planning to install a beavertail for a more comfortable shooting experience at the range. Is there an after market beavertail safety that I can just drop in without the need to modify the frame? I’ve read that you need a jig and file the tangs if you use Wilson government or S&A 220. Has someone tried egw?
Thanks!

With those grips almost anything would work. The only part that shows is the back of the safety. Only part you can touch also.

Find a duck bill like on the older Gold Cup trophy's.
I don't believe the beaver tail will work with that hammer

There is a style of beavertail which is drop-in. It is functional but looks a bit clunky. Be advised that if you go with a fitted beavertail, proper fitting for best feel and cosmetics requires some blending of the frame, which in turn requires re-finishing.
Also, even the drop-in has to be fitted in terms of proper operation of the safety function.

If you ever want to put in a true fit beavertail go with a 220 radius on the SA

just contour the bottom of safety to comfort and grind out the top so you can use commander hammers

LenV,
Your Nill XL grip will probably fit better for this type of safety grip. I’ll switch it to your grip next time I go to the range.
