Hi all, my name is vin cava, 71 years young, shooting since I was 10!. rifle mostly, in early 1970s had jim clark build a 45 long slide. couldn't get the hang of the sport and sold the gun. got into PPC for the next twenty or so years, won matches at N.Y. state police Olympics. retired, and could no longer hold the positions especially kneeling! foiled around with my handguns and collecting, joined a club near me in new jersey that is mostly a bullseye club and soon discovered how bad i was! so I bought a benelli 95 an rl shockly 45, and a caspien 9. dont shoot much better, but having a great time! nice to be on board with the bullesey family.

hi guys, just reloading on my dillon 550, for the 45cal. last time i reloaded for this dinasoures roamed! was using federal brass and primers, 200gr bullx wad cutters, and 4.9 of ww 231. now i see everybody switching to 185 jacketed hollow points. any better? also thinking of picking up a 1970s clark with a dot sight. seems tight, $1500. I have th rl shockly with open sights, and am just starting to get into this game, but i figure better to get all the toys now while i still can. any thoughts? Thanks! Vin C.

Many of us still use the good old 200 rain LSWC. I do, many of my friends here and on Facebook do and it’s very economical. The 185 grain JHP has proven to be a very accurate bullet and some prefer it at 50 yards over lead to make sure they are taking advantage of every possible angle but in all honesty it’s not worth the extra money unless you can really do you part with gun. Many 2600+ scores have been shot with lead. The Jacketed bullet may group better but marginally and at the cost of dollars and recoil.

First and foremost WELCOME !
It appears we have a lot in common, as Tim H11 ( Jason ) has said above a lot of us still shoot 200gr SWC lead. I personally use your exact recipe , 4.9 W231. W primers, .468 crimp with a Dillion 550. I have a few... Bullseyes .45's but always seem to go back to my J. Clark Sr. gun which he built for me in 1987 when I got hooked on Bullseye.
Great group of people again Welcome

First... welcome to the forum, Vin.
Second... If you want to try some 200gr lead SWC in your gun before you bother to buy and reload them, I'd be more than happy to let you try some of mine. I use Zero brand swaged 200gr lead SWC over 3.9gr Bullseye in Starline brass, crimped to .468 with Winchester WLP primers. They work great in my RO (Springfield Range Officer) with a Kart barrel. I can bring some extras to the next Thursday session (too bad last night got snowed out, and next Thursday is Thanksgiving, so it won't be until the 29th.) I'm the guy from CRRC that you probably know as 'Dave'.
Third... Looking forward to shooting the parent-junior match with you in a couple weeks. If you need anything or have any questions before or even during that match, don't hesitate to ask. I'm happy to help if I can.
Dave
