I did not know you do laminated wood grips, as seen on the Unique VO. Can you please provide advantages and disadvantages of laminated over solid? I mean it looks great, but are there structural differences? Heavier or lighter, longevity, absorption, wear to the stipples? Would be great to hear from the master himself. Thanks!

LAMINATED WOOD
Guys, I don't really have a source for laminated wood. The ones in the photos were my attempt to utilize some drops from resawing the various grip blanks and gluing them together. Kind of a pain in the ass really. So I have a few of these blocks available if there is interest. Not really sure what the advantages if any are. Maybe someone could recommend a supplier for the colored plywood material that other manufacturers are using.

Most precision rifle stock builders like laminated blanks over solid walnut because its more stable and won't be affected as much by environmental changes. Not sure it really makes a difference for us. Some like the flashy look of laminate with alternating colors, a lot of us prefer a pretty piece of walnut though.

I have shot two indoor gallery matches since if installed Dick's grips. My average has gone up 4.36 points. I have made no other changes to the pistol.Foundryratjim wrote:I am happy with mine!

https://cwp.fi/en/products/cwp-laminated-blanks/ They’re in Finland. They might have a US importer.

It says "with accents" looks like he drilled and put in walnut inserts as a visual accent.

I have three, Mod. 41, Mod. 52 and 1911. If memory serves, all three were in the one-week range. It surprised me, but Dick appears to have it all down pat. I'm guessing he uses 3d CAD and a CNC router for most of it. For this type of work, CNCs can really speed up things.

MADE IN AMERICA
Gary: No CAD or CNC. These are all built using Band Saws, Carbide Burrs on Drill Presses, and Dremel Tools. Stippling done with a Center Punch and Chaser Hammer, one stroke at a time. No two grips are alike.

I met up with Stray Brit at our range today by accident. He was trying out his new Matchgun 32. All his guns had Horton grips on them, and they were all beautiful. Inspired me to print out the order form.
