Ambi Mag release for 1911
Does anyone know of an ambi, or right side mag release for the single stack 1911? I have one from Smith and Alexander on my current gun (I'm lefty) but it's been discontinued and I would like to get one for my new gun.
thanks in advance.

they do, I've got that one on my marvel frame... if you push the "normal side" the "lever" can slide out and hold the catch open so I was hoping for another option.

If you’re a lefty, just hit the regular mag release with your trigger finger. With some practice, you can probably do it without shifting your grip. As a lefty, I always preferred doing it this way, especially in shooting USPSA because it’s faster and safer (if your trigger finger is on the mag release, it’s definitely outside of the trigger guard and not on the trigger).

yes, it can be done this way, but I prefer to drop the mag with the right hand to not change grip between strings. even when I didn't have the ambi release, I'd reach arround and press the release with the middle finger of my right had. simple preference on my part...mpolans wrote:If you’re a lefty, just hit the regular mag release with your trigger finger. Yep nothing preventing a lefty from dropping the mag with the right hand with a left side mag release. You can either reach over the top or underneath. I use to practice this during weak hand combat drills.

I'm LH and personally I think that the standard setup is actually better for most lefties. I have medium hands and my thumbs aren't long enough to reach anyway unless I break the grip. I can just use my trigger finger to actuate the mag and slide release. Works quite well.
