Pseudonyms and Decorum
Shooters,
It's been a long time, but I temporarily banned a user for a lack of decorum. Will reported to me that there were other examples of the breakdown of the individual's bearing that I didn't see, but I saw enough.
As has been the tradition here, This community is based on collegial decorum, manners, and tactfulness to better assist the other users of the forum and our sport. If your comments don't fit all of those descriptions, don't make the comment.
The quickest way to receive disciplinary sanctions is to attack the opinions of other commenters. If you disagree with another user's comment, you can say so, then make a better point and let the reader decide. Move on. Also, don't revert to name calling or personal attacks. Our arguments should be stronger than that--if not, it shouldn't be made here.
As has also been the tradition here, if your username is a Pseudonym, sign off each post with a signature that has your name---or if you are trying to minimize your digital footprint provide at least enough of your name that would make it easy for someone you have shot a match with to know who you are.
Carry on!

p.s. the only reason my username is "Founder" now is because there are administrative tools that can only be used by the account held by "founder". I didn't create the forum, I believe John Dreyer did when it appeared that the Bullseye-L list server was going to be lost. These "founder" administrative duties were handed down a few times and finally down to me, and I'm doing the best I can to keep the community as healthy as it was when I was given the keys. I hope my efforts are a success.

In this case, I had deleted the offending posts and contacted the user via private message. Some posts I will leave up if they serve to help educate the forum, but I take down personal attacks ASAP. They serve no one except the ego of the attacker.
It is a credit to the users on this forum how seldom we have to pursue the enforcement aspect of our position. Even then, it is almost always a very minor, one time issue caused by misunderstanding rather than malice.

Re: Pseudonyms and Decorum
Rob and Will, can't agree with you more. I've been caught up in the moment before and used spicy meanings, I just didn't think first. Mom used to say to me that my cussing and swearing was because I never paid attention in grammar school English class. Said if I did, there were many better noun, verbs, and adjectives to use.
I also agree that maybe we should sign off our post and such with at least our first name. My pseudo-name is a nick-name from my wife because my favorite meal is pan fried pork chops with fried potatoes and onions, with pork and beans so much. I belong to a forum where you have to use your real first and last name, no pseudo-names. Sometimes you like to be known by your nick-name when there's a lot of us with the same first name
Thanks, Stan

PM sent to Rob on specifics, but a general request: please don't use a photo of someone else as your profile pic.
Thanks to Rob and Will and James for maintaining the civility around here.

Decorum. Manners. Tactfulness.
Is one out of three ok? Or do I have to do all three?

Save the vitriol and reap responsible, helpful dialogue. This is most civil shooting forum bar none.

K2, A Groucho Marksman? I love it!
Having been on BE-L since the 1990s we have periodic blowups with the potential for better friendships and.....sometimes, not.
Oh well

I hope Wobbley refers to your shooting and not your flying....Wobbley wrote:All: in the spirit of this thread, I have updated my Avatar. My true name is Ashley and this is me sitting in the airplane I built.

At the time, I chose the name to reflect my shooting and the Mk IV (Victorian) .455 Webley I had just purchased. (Wobbley —> Webly) I collect old guns as well as shoot modern guns. As for my flying, my instructor seems to be comfortable with me flying but says I need to improve.joy2shoot wrote:I hope Wobbley refers to your shooting and not your flying....Wobbley wrote:All: in the spirit of this thread, I have updated my Avatar. Reminds me of the old Mitch Hedberg line: "After the last time I performed at The Improv, they added an 'E'"
