Which Geco .22 ammo for target pistols?
I was wondering if any of you had any experience with the .22 offerings from Geco.It seems like Target Sports has it for a pretty reasonable price. They have two versions, one at 1080 fps,and one at 1158 fps.I was wondering if the 1080 version would be enough to reliably cycle a GSP,a S&W 41,or a High Standard Trophy.Unfortunately, the only small quantity available locally to try is the 1158 fps version.I've got a case of CCI SV,but am getting the occasional weak round.Time to try something different.Thanks,-Mike

I’ve fired the GECO 22LR Semi Auto in my S&W 41. It was reliable and accurate. I’ve only fired a brick and it worked ok.

The “rifle” version (1080) cycles a HS, Ruger MKIII and Nelson with no problems.
The semi auto version works fine also.
Generally found for around $200 a case.
Shhh don’t let that secret out.

I tried the Geco rifle in my Pardini when it was all I could find locally and it shot very well. Also cycled fine. I then bought a case from Target Sports about a year ago. It shot fine but I had functioning problems. Some boxes were good, others weren't. That is the only ammo to ever give me a problem in the Pardini! It is very accurate out of my match barrel contender, so I guess I'll be shooting the remaining 4,000+ rounds through that!

I've got a couple boxes of the semi auto to try if I can make it to league tomorrow night.I appreciate the input from folks who have tried it.-Mike

I shoot Geco Semi-Auto in a Nelson Conversion all the time with good results. Never had an issue with this ammo as far as FTF. It has a very greasy lube coating like most Euro ammo but if the gun is kept clean the ammo is very accurate and reliable. My two cents.

I took some of the Geco rifle with me to the range today to try it again. Although it cycled in my Pardini, four rounds out of the 30 I tried felt weak and barely ejected ! Seems to me a QC issue, not a velocity problem, which may be why my first brick from a couple years ago worked fine, but not this latest case.

Well,I got a chance to try out some of the semi auto in my GSP last night. Apparently, this stuff doesn't like being in a cold car all day.It was pretty weak until it got a chance to warm up.-Mike

The 60 rounds of CCI SV I shot worked fine in the GSP and the HS,but it had a chance to warm up while I was testing the Geco. This might be a simple matter of keeping my ammo warmer.-Mike

I wonder if it’s more important the gun warms up.

It appears to work just fine with my Marvel.
I was having second thoughts after I ordered 5000 rounds of .22 that I had never tried...
Thanks for the "secret" Jim!
P.S. ...And thanks again for the grip. It made a world of difference!

Geco Semi-auto works fine in my Ruger/Volquartsen, 10/22, model 41 and is quite accurate.

You guys stop promoting this ammo....the price will go up! Jim let the secret out!
All kidding aside, apart from the heavy lube on this ammo (just requires a little more elbow grease to keep the stuff from accumulating), it shoots great. I just use a 1 lb. heavier recoil spring for the Geco Semi-Auto + the duds are VERY few and far between.
