Odd feature on Browning Medalist
Saw a Browning Medalist at a local gun shop today--nice shape, very nice trigger. It had a metal post sticking up about 1/2" from the top of the right side grip panel. The post was located so as to put it about 1/4" ahead of the front of the (locked open) slide. I'm curious as to its function. Some sort of shell deflector, maybe?

That is exactly what it is. Some grips have spot to slide one in and some don't. My pin was in the box with the barrel weights and accessories.

And if you don't have the post you can make one out of a nail. I ran a Challenger with a nail post (Medalist grips) for a while and then removed it. I didn't find it threw the cases in an obnoxious direction or any further than other .22s without the post.
