S&W 952 to S&W 52 Empty S&W 952 to S&W 52

Post by ser2711 Tue 26 Mar - 8:20

I am getting use with the feeling of S&W 52-1 that I use in competition  ( 30+30 at 25 meters)  I recently I bought a S&W 952 so I ask my friend gunsmith to fit trigger and stirrup of the S&W 52 to have same distance: trigger to grip safety. The result.. a perfect clone to 52 model but in 9 mm Luger.

My next project is to have a new barrel for the S&W 952  in .30 Luger as at 50 meters  is more accurate, fast and less recoil . See SIG P210

Interesting project. For International style competition? Doesn't bullseye rules require a 32 cal minimum for the CF stage?

When/if you find a barrel to have worked on please post where you found it. I want to convert my 952 to a 38 Super. I won't be able to use the longer nosed bullets but would make an awesome WC pistol.

BTW. If your like me then your disgusted with how few after market grips are available for the 952. I decided to be Andrews (Precision Target Pistol Grips) guinea pig for the 952 and now he has the all the info he needs to make grips to fit anyone for them. I just wanted the grips to match all my 1911 grips. These feel just like my Nills.

Vortex Crossfire. I prefer a tube even if it is a small one over a reflex sight. The scope has been flawless on here.

Len   BME mount that I modified.

Len, I'm thinking more of 52 than 952, but when I get home I am thinking of installing optics.  I was thinking Aimpoint Micro, but was wondering what you needed to do (if anything) to the gun when you replace the steel sight with the optics?  Did you keep the same recoil spring?

One of these years, I'll find a 952 I can afford, and then I can join you guys in this project.  Not sure when that might happen, as collectors keep bumping the cost up.

You said you prefer tube optics rather than reflex sights.  I agree from my past experience, but the reflex sights are so light, I'm wondering which is really better for me.  What is your reason to select the tube optics?

1.Oregon weather 2.finding the dot 3.Three part line up and 4.adjustment of POI. To elaborate.1. It can rain sideways here. 2.Sometimes I have to move a reflex almost up to my face before I can acquire the dot.3. Looking thru the tube lets me verify my head, arm, pistol and target are in alignment thus avoiding most parallax problems. 4.Every reflex sight I have used has adjusted the frame to move the dot. This means you have very coarse adjustments when moving sights. And movement seems non linear. Some reflex may work better then others but that is my experience.

Try contacting Claudio the gunsmith at Briley. I beleive he is involved in a project making S&W gen three barrels.
