Well I got my new/used Mod 41...but
I need to find a gunsmith in the east texas/far west LA area. The 41 has these 4 teenie, tiny drilled and tapped holes for a mount. But no mounts can possibly used holes that miniscule. so I will need to have then re-drilled and tapped to a more common size. I need a picatinny mount. I really rather not go the filing route of a weaver mount.
Please PM me with your suggestions or in the forum.

I think I would like to see a picture of the holes that are in it.

Well the heads of the screws are maybe about 1/16" or slightly less. That makes the holes even smaller. There are four of then Linearly along the top of the barrel.
1st set spaced about 1" apart and the other 2 about 3 1/2" inches further down the barrel. also about 1" apart.
I just cant fathom that the screws could support the torque and recoil of even a mounted red dot. Even the minis dots.
I will try to get pic posted but the focus of my camera is limited.

the screw heads you are seeing are just fillers (I believe)
If I remember correctly the holes in a 41 are something like 4-48 and you will get the appropriate screws with the mount.
If you do have them re-tapped be sure to send the mount with so they can match the holes, but I don't think you need to go that route.

The screw heads that come with the barrel are indeed "fillers". If you order the Weaver rail for the Model 41 it will have the proper screws for mounting with it - and it's inexpensive. I got mine from Brownell's. It is Weaver rail # 48062, which is "gloss black".

the Weaver rail, #62 fits perfectly and can be found for about $8.00 on ebay. Screws of the appropriate size are included as others have stated. Be careful removing the filler screws as they can booger easily.

The Weaver base should work: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1009225757/weaver-top-mount-scope-base-62-gloss
If you do need to get it drilled and tapped, you could try Clark in Princeton, LA (just east of Shreveport): https://clarkcustomguns.com/gunsmithing-service/scopes-scope-bases/
I have two slides there getting drilled/tapped at the moment.
Good luck!

I still have the issue of Weaver NOT accepting a red dot with picatinny system. I can file the weaver slot to fit the picatinny. but that may create other problems.....filing too deep, having to file multiple slots if the dot has 2 watchamacallits.\
I guess filing is least offensive option.

This one might fit and it is a Pic rail. I say might fit as the #62 Weaver fits the 742 and 760 Remington rifles. It’s use on the 41 is what S&W decided was the best choice so they drilled their barrels to suit. You could call EGW and ask them.

Well I got 3 of 4 of the screws out without too much difficulty. But that 4 screw wont budge at all. I put a drop of penetrating oil on it and will try again tomorrow. I dont want to mess up the slot in case I have to take it to a local gunsmith. They should have the proper tool(s)

The reason proper screwdriver bits cost so much is because they are worth it.

I tried an EGW rail and it required removing the rear sight. I don't know if there are two versions or not, but caveat emptor.Wobbley wrote:This one might fit and it is a Pic rail.
