A lot depends on your price point, otherwise Aimpoint 9000x ?

I use a Vortex Venom 3 MOA and it works quite well.

I love my Aimpoint 9000SC's but not sure I would try one on a S&W 52 due to the weight unless you use a frame mount. An Aimpoint Micro or Primary Arms MD-ADS would work well if slide mounted.

That is why I use the Vortex Venom, keeps the weight down, since I have a weight on the gun.zanemoseley wrote:I love my Aimpoint 9000SC's but not sure I would try one on a S&W 52 due to the weight unless you use a frame mount. I'm not a huge fan of reflex style sights especially on a bullseye pistol. Too easy to lose the dot. I prefer the micro style dots. Different strokes for different folks.

What difference do you notice with the Model 52 when you attach the weight?mustachio wrote:........since I have a weight on the gun.
I know the gun will feel heavier because it is.
I think you will notice because the weight is out front, this makes the gun feel even heavier.
What difference do you notice when shooting?

Question - to remove the steel sight, you loosen the tiny screw from above, then slide the sight to the right, trying not to lose the spring and plunger for the magazine disconnect. The red dot mounts slide in from the right, but how do you lock them in place? Even if the screw was there, it would be covered by the red dot sight. Is it just held in place by friction?

Re: Red dot on pistol competition
The mount from EGW has to be pushed in it is an interference fit. This is the tool used.

How about the BME mount for the Model 52:

http://www.bme-mounts.com/sw52-dr.html
http://www.bme-mounts.com/gallery.html
About the EGW mount:
http://www.egwguns.com/pistol-and-red-dot-mounts/viper/venom-s-w-52-sight-mount-fits-burris-fastfire-and-docter/
Side notes:
First, the EGW mount is tapered, going in from left to right, with the taper making it easier to mount and remove the mount later.
Second, assuming one wants to use an Aimpoint Micro, the EGW is not designed for that.
......which leads to a question, are the Aimpoint H1 and H2 too heavy to use on a Model 52? Maybe the Ultradot LT would be better, as it's so small and light?

Re: Red dot on pistol competition
with the weight the gun is heavier but well balanced. without the weight the gun has a bit more muzzle flip, which makes getting back on target somewhat longer.mikemyers wrote:What difference do you notice with the Model 52 when you attach the weight?mustachio wrote:........since I have a weight on the gun.

with my particular loads, 2.5 gr. Bullseye and the weight, recoil is negligible and my brass simply falls directly at my feet. I have had no issues with function or accuracy with this load and the gun is a dream to shoot.

I've been shooting Magnus #514 bullets with 2.7 grains of Bullseye. I think you're shooting a different bullet? I wonder if I'd notice any change if I did load with 2.5 grains of Bullseye?
I see you use a Vortex Venom sight. How does that compare with an Ultradot LT ?

Re: Red dot on pistol competition
I use the Precision Delta 148 gr. HBWC or 148 gr. Hornady 148 gr. HBWC. The PD are $87/1000 and includes shipping, the least expensive I have seen the Hornady has been about $104/1000 and I have to pay shipping. I like both but have more of the PD loaded. Both are very accurate with my 2.5 gr. Bullseye powder load.mikemyers wrote:I've been shooting Magnus #514 bullets with 2.7 grains of Bullseye. I think you're shooting a different bullet? The Venom looks quite similar to the Ultradot LT, I would presume they would perform similarly, both have lifetime warranties. The Venom has a 3 MOA dot and the Ultradot has a 4 MOA dot...I like the smaller dot. On my model 41 I have the TruGlo Tru-Tec with a 3 MOA dot, much less expensive and pretty much the same as the Venom. See Pic.
