camp Perry huts

staying first time in huts.
What recommendation to bring?

Do they offer continental breakfast catered?
Are soft pillows, clean sheets and good mattresses available?

Coffee pots? Microwave? Nite lites?
Refrigerator and freezer?
A.C ?

Bring a Class A in your duffel bag and your set. Class C would work also.

Wow, hard to get that lot in an airline carry-on bag!

 between the on base Px and the local walmart and Kroger,, you can get everything, 


when you first arrive, enter with the broom,  and give it a good sweep, including the ceiling and corners for spiders, bees, etc etc, 

then after the dust settles, move in, 

been a good while since I have been, and then it was a renovated hut, so not a lot of cobwebs, 

we put a window unit in (had a cheap one we brought) and turned it on low as it would go, 
it ran the entire time,  kept it below 80 in the hot part of the day

the cots are ok,, but better if you put a sheet of plywood on them, then the matress, and a sleeping bag on top of that , 
I took my own pillow and light blanket (actually a sheet)

we used a big 105qt cooler for the beer and water, and perishable foods,  one guy had a dorm type fridge he plugged in, 

we had 3 in a hut, 2 of us rode up in a pickup, 
rifles and gear behind the seat (extra cab Tundra) and all the living stuff (clothes, cooler, AC, 2 bicycles etc) in the bed of the truck 

ice was cheap on post,  
everything else we bought off base 


btw, 

last I was there, if you go to Oak Harbor, (not that far from the front gate, maybe a 20minute drive) Kozy Corners is a great place to eat

Huts are an airconditioned room with 4 beds, mattresses, pillows and 4 lockers. That's it. Concrete floor, bare bulb in the ceiling, 2 windows and a door.

Mattresses are decent, not great, with one thin pillow. When they rebuilt the huts a few years ago they replaced the beds and mattresses and they don't sag like they used to. You supply sheets, towels etc. There is a Walmart in Freemont if you want to buy there.

Yes, Walmart in Freemont, Kroger in Port Clinton. Fleet Farm or Tractor Supply if you go a little further.

This refers to the old huts. There are really old huts that date back to WWII, then they were renovated but still the same plywood tents. They no longer rent them and most have been demolished. New huts are on a raised concrete slab (no cracks, no flooding), Prefab building are weatherproof (not nearly as many bugs or dirt) and have a built in air conditioners (aaaah!) and sufficient electrical service to run hot plate, microwave and/or refrigerator.

A cooler is a good way to go. The PX sells both cubes and block ice.

Burn the hut!!

These are the European Large House Spider, Eratigena atrica. Found throughout Europe and transplanted to Seattle in the 1900s and perhaps NYC and Philly. They move quick and are almost big enough to throw a saddle on.

You should come to Florida. 

That's just a little one.

A lot of the people that stay at Perry do their own cooking though there are food trucks from time to time and places to eat in nearby Port Clinton. I know this might elicit a groan from some but I miss the old Mess Hall.

I never saw the old mess hall but the first year I went, 2015?, they had a mess hall open. never since and it's a pain to not be able to sit with a group. the food trucks are handy but....

I think these are even newer huts. 2018

The old mess Hall was destroyed by a storm some years ago you can still Google images of it. If I remember correctly it was the biggest building on the base.

Is that the same spider that you are looking at in your Avatar and hangs out in the shop? Don’t bring with to Perry.......

It never looked that good when I first went to Perry, 1987? In fact it was kind of an eyesore in need of major refurbishment but it still evokes some pleasant memories especially if you didn't mind army chow.
