ROUND NOSE FLAT POINT ACCURACY? Empty ROUND NOSE FLAT POINT ACCURACY?

Post by kjanracing Sun May 05, 2019 11:20 am

I’m having feeding issues with my Clark Heavy Long Slide. I don’t think it’s a function of recoil spring/load power. I’ve tried lighter springs and hotter loads. It’s the edge of the wadcutter nose getting hung up on the feed ramp. It’s really bad with 185 SWHPs from ZERO, I thing the nose is too “sharp “.  200s are a little better.
I think the softness of the swaged lead is a factor. The best reliability I’ve had seemed to be with Berry’s hard cast 200 gr SWC. I’m going to try Berry’s 200 RNFP to see how they feed. Do you think accuracy will suffer with this profile bullet? I want to try a 200 round nose too, but local reloading shop didn’t have them. I love shooting this pistol, but I can’t use it in a match at this time.
Thanks, Kurt

I was having a problem with my Clark Heavy Slide not feeding anything consistently.  I switched from using mags with a rounded follower to ones with the old std flat follower.  That solved the problem.

Mags don’t really make any difference.

A follow up. I loaded up some 200gr RNFP from Berry’s. Juiced them up to 4.4 BE. I also changed out to a 12lb recoil spring to give the slide more oomph on the return. So far about 250 rounds problem free. Even shot a 96 and 97 RF.
