Camp Perry 230grn TMJ? Empty Camp Perry 230grn TMJ?

Post by noz455sd Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:34 pm

I am prepping up for my first trip to camp perry...Ill be shooting with a 1911 in the Presidents 100 match. I am about to choose a projectile for my own hardball load.

My question is... Can I use TMJ 230grn bullets instead of 230grn FMJ? I know CMP rules are finicky but ill be practicing a lot indoors so I want no lead in the air. I was hoping that as long as its 230grn and has a FMJ dome I would be good to go

Thanks
Chris

Also the rules state FMJ but a TMJ is a FMJ just with the added gas check base swedged in there...I hoping there is room in the interpretation of the law

Unless you are shooting factory "clean" ammo there will be lead in the air from the primer.

I don't know how the refs would rule, but if it is gold colored and has a round nose, it would probably not raise any flags. If it is a truncated cone like I've seen, it would not be legal.

Send an email or letter to the CMP, print the response and bring it to the match if you have doubts.

Shouldnt matter unless you win and your ammo is challenged, then you loose, why not just buy the required bullet ? Zero and seira make super accurate 230 fmjs bullets.

Ok thanks for the replys guys...I guess Ill just go with the plain jane FMJ pill for my loads...I got the XL650 all setup last night while I was waiting for someone to reply...

Sierra pills are some what high and I dont know anything about Zero's line but what about Montana Golden Bullet? I was planing to buy a couple of cases from them unless you guys opinion do not favor them for any reason... They seem very competition oriented

Thanks
Chris

I don't know anything about Montana.

Sierra is excellent but pricey. Zero is almost as good and cheaper check out rozedist.com

They may not have them in stock but go ahead and call and see when they will have them. They run different bullets at different times and sometimes they don't have what you want when you want it. Just be patient and they will get to making what it is you want. I was the proud recipient of 15,000 185 swchp's friday from Zero:D

From what I have read on the net (which is nothing but truth....jk) Montana Golden Bullets are designed with the competition shooter in mind and held to very uniform tolerances. They aren't that that much more expensive either...But those Zeros are sold out and Sierras are just to high

...in my experience are very good. Best results are obtained if previous jacket fouling is cleaned first.
