1911 in 9mm and .45
I now have two IDENTICAL Les Baer pistols one in 9mm and one in .45. Both hold 2" at 50 yards with right ammo all day long. Both have 4LB decent triggers . I seem to shoot 45 somewhat better than 9mm. ESPECIALLY in timed and rapid fire. Any thoughts ? Does it make any sense?

9mm is usually snappier recoil. My guess is your flinching. Are your bad shots typically low left? Assuming you're RH'ed.

The recoil sensation could surely be a factor, but another is the 27% bigger hole of the .45. Score some 9mm targets with a .45 plug and see how many points you'd add.

I have a Dan Wesson Valor and PM-9. Both stainless full size 1911. My wife and I can both shoot the Valor in 45 better. The 9 mm is more accurate. Both have the same trigger and Red dot sight.

My first thought is to ask what ammo you are shooting.
Anybody that has shot 115 +P+ and 147 soft load knows where I'm going with this.

fairly mild 45 load...not so with the HSTs.
if you are reloading look around here for some of the 9mm loads folks have used... 115 XTP is a good start

I only have experience in this with one gun, my 9mm Taurus PT9, but 'mustachio' suggested I change from the 115 gr ammunition I had been shooting, to 147 gr ammunition.zanemoseley wrote:9mm is usually snappier recoil......
With this change, the gun got much more enjoyable to shoot.
There are other changes he suggested, but I've only gotten to doing this one so far, although I've bought the springs and things he suggested.
Since then, I've gotten a call from Zero Manufacturing, and they also sell 147 gr ammo in 9mm.
When I run out, I'll be buying from them.

He has a fine mustache to go with his fine advice. Please let us know how the Zero 147 work for you.mikemyers wrote:I only have experience in this with one gun, my 9mm Taurus PT9, but 'mustachio' suggested I change from the 115 gr ammunition I had been shooting, to 147 gr ammunition.zanemoseley wrote:9mm is usually snappier recoil......

KC Built 1911 with 1-32 twist 9mm 115 XTP or HAP, shot consistent 50yd 1.25" groups, but you had to push 'em to 1,100fps way to snappy for me. KC re-barreled it in .38 Super Comp with a fast 1-10 twist barrel. I can shoot 147gr FPBB (Flat Point Bevel Base) bullets at very close to 38 Special loads of 2.8gr WST. "Super" soft shooting and under 2" @ 50yds.

My LB PII 1.5" gun shoots great at 25 and 50 yards , but I just shoot my regular LB PII in .45 ACP better IN TIMED AND RAPID FIRE. However in slow fire with Atlanta ammo I shoot 9mm somewhat better than 45.

I would keep the HST for the long line until you find something better.Sheriff1962 wrote:My LB PII 1.5" gun shoots great at 25 and 50 yards , but I just shoot my regular LB PII in .45 ACP better IN TIMED AND RAPID FIRE. However in slow fire with Atlanta ammo I shoot 9mm somewhat better than 45.
For the short line I'd use anything but +P ammo. I'd start with Atlanta Arms; I think that their ~900FPS offering will be much more tolerable at the 25.
