Looking for recommendation for a good (25 and 50) 200 SWC jacketed load. My guns always liked 200SWC lead HG68 / 4-4.2 BE.
I like to try to shoot jacketed bullets for 25 and 50 yards . I like to stick with BE powder . THANK YOU .

All I use is BE powder with this load. I don't have many loads for this bullet. I tried 4.2 gr and it didn't work well. I ended settling on 4.6 gr for the best performance but it felt a little hot. It is a good legal and accurate EIC load. I use the 185gr smaller version of the same bullet with 4.2 gr and it works great. Also legal for EIC with less recoil.

I haven't found the current jacketed SWC bullets to be as accurate as the swaged lead bullets. There may be some very accurate JHPs, but I am happy with the swaged bullets by Zero, Precision Bullets, and Precision Delta and can't afford to play with jacketed.

Hornady 200JSWC were very accurate at 50yds from my 1955 Model using 4.8BE in rimmed cases.  I think that bullet wants to go fast even in a 1911

I would think the recoil impulse with these bullets would be increased. That would be a consideration at the short line for me.

A few years ago at Camp Perry the armed forces guys were shooting hollow point Jacketed Noslers and Vihtavouri powders
not a bad place to experiment if you're inclined.  Most of those guys are Masters and High masters sooo-

JHP are easier to make accurate. The HP moves the center of gravity back and it is formed from the back, so the base is perfectly formed in the swaging process. The second step just forms the nose, which is less critical. FMJ and JSWC form the point in the first swaging process. The second step forms the base and if it isn't exactly the same size and in-line with the first step, you'll get a bump near the base and the accuracy goes out of the window.

I'm not sure how they make TMJ, but I've never heard of them being bullseye accurate.

Why not try JHP? They are more available and usually cheaper. If you really want 200gr they are available, but I would stick with known good 185 JHP (Zero, Nosler, maybe HAP). 4.4-4.5 Bullseye should be accurate and easy shooting, 4.8-5 is usually the best accuracy but can be a bit hot.

According to my limited internet search...TMJ bullets are typically electroplated with copper (Berrys & Raniers).
The plating is usually soft & not recommended for use in ported barrels.

As we all know if it's on the net it has to be true and this statement is not being presented as something that I actually know.

And the JHP are on sale.  Seems like a no brainer to me unless you have an aversion to JHP bullets.
