Using mica powder Empty Using mica powder

Post by lablover Mon Jul 15, 2019 9:01 am

i cast my own bullets and sometimes buy them.  I like using my bullet feeder but the wax lube in the lube groove can gum up the die for the feeder.  I’ve seen people say to use mica powder. I’ve used talcum powder and it works great but not sure how healthy that is for the barrel etc.  does mica powder cause any barrel issues?  Also trying coated but my gun doesn’t seem to like them too much.

Talc is the softest mineral, so there is no issue with hardness in the barrel.
I shoot only as-cast bullets and use Lee Liquid Alox or 45/45/10 as a LIGHT tumble lube (if you can see the lube, you used too much).
I place 200-500 cast bullets in a glass casserole dish and set them on their side. I squirt a little "Z" over them and then I roll and shuffle them around for 30-60 seconds. Then I try to look at all of them and ensure they all look wet and shiny. If so, I'm done. If not, then another little squirt and some more rolling and shuffling around.
I don't like the idea of actually tumbling my bullets either, though when I did, I never saw any damage.
