Anyone got a Model 17, 8 3/8 inch barrel...
Specifically I'm looking for the measurements of the barrel length (including cylinder) and sight radius to see if it is in compliance with the NRA rule book for .22 pistols.
"Barrel length, including cylinder, not more than 10 inches. Trigger pull not less than 2 pounds. Any sights, including telescopic, are permitted with the exception of those sights that project an image on the target. Open (metallic) sights may be adjustable but not over 10 inches apart measured from the apex of the rear sight to the apex of the front sight."
Cheers

I don’t have a 8-3/8 barrel. But I offer the following taken from a 6” 17-4. Recoil shield to muzzle 7-9/16 inches. Cylinder 1-9/16. Barrel 6”. Sight radius to target sight (not ramp)7-3/8.
I’d just add the 2-3/8 additional to the recoil shield to muzzle and sight radius figures and you should be good to go.

Were the NRA rules written with these pistols in mind, or were the pistols designed with the rulebook in mind?

Don't remember case when Ashley wasn't correct! This is 14-4 with 8 3/8" barrel. Sight to Sight - 9 3/4", Barrel to Cylinder - 9 7/8".
You should be good to go with K22, IMO.

I believe the pistols were designed for the rules. Why else would S&W make an 8-3/8" barrel? Why not 8" or 8.5"?adminbot1911 wrote:Were the NRA rules written with these pistols in mind, or were the pistols designed with the rulebook in mind?
I have a High Standard Trophy with a 7-1/4" barrel. The sight radius is 9-15/16. Anybody think that's a coincidence?
