Favorite loads for 32 S&W Long, 83 Gr HBWC
I have a .32 S&W Long that I shoot in Outdoor Bullseye. I currently load a Lapua 83 gr, HBWC loaded with 1.5 gr of Trail Boss in my .32 S&W Long. It's a nice light load and quite accurate to 25 yards, which is what we shoot in our league. Sometimes the load changes because of its "Cheerio" shaped powder (sometimes not consistent drop) and I wanted to try some finer powders. I was thinking of W231, Vitavoori N310, Bullseye and maybe some other suggestions from other shooters/re-loaders. I load in a Dillion 650 with the Micrometer for Unique-Tek. My pistol is a Hammerli SP20 and it's an awesome pistol.
Thanks so much for your help!!

I am a lover of N310! I use it with all of my 45 loads. I use it with my 32 ACP Pardini BUT in my Hammerli 280 S&W Long it just seemed to me too snappy and too hot. I found 231 was the best powder for gun. Maybe yours will be different

Hello James!! I also like W231 and it works really well in my Smith 52. I don't want snappy & hot which defeats the purpose of my .32 S&W Long. My current load with Trail Boss is very mild. What kind of a load do you use for your 32 with W231? Really nice looking Hammerli 280.
Thanks!!

Thanks so much Jim for your information. The other components of my load are Starline brass, Federal Match small pistol primers, 1.5 Trail Boss and 83 gr. Lapua HBWC. I have some of those Speer bullets but I didn't want to adjust the dies to accommodate the 98 grain because they are longer.

I will try that load of 1.4 gr, W231 and it should work fine with my 83 gr bullets.
Thanks!!

I’ve also got an SP 20, both 32 long and 32 ACP, super gun. I used to use WST, but switched to 310. 1.4 grains for the short line (the vast majority of my Shooting), or 1.7 for the long line. Lapua brass, bumped 98 gr Spinkers.

Hey Greg!!
Is the 1.4 grains of VV N310 a mild load? When I first bought the pistol from a friend he was loading 1.7 Gr. of WST and 98 gr. HBWC and to me that was quite snappy and I didn't like it so I switched to 1.4 Gr. Trail Boss, Lapua 83 gr, HBWC and its really mild. We always shoot 25 yards (short line?) because our range only has that available and shooting reduced targets for outdoor Bullseye.
I've read that VV N310 was a very accurate powder and metered well.
Thanks Greg!!

Yes, definitely a mild load. I shoot more for relaxing. The lighter loads are easier on the guns themselves as well, and I can’t discern any noticeable difference in accuracy at 25y. The 310 does meter very nicely. Great powder for mouse loads.Brian.highstandard wrote:Hey Greg!!
