I like that you are trying to get the functioning 100%. Accuracy can be tested after you get the pistol free of excessive alibis.
If the 6/6.5 lb spring works - as the temp goes up and the gun gets fully broken in, you may need to go up in spring rate. It is a fine balancing act.

How do you clean the chamber? with the lefthanded .25 caliber brush?

I just have a regular 22 brush and 22 cloth holder. I clean through the breech only.

I use a bent 25 cal bronze brush or use VFG intense pellets with J-B bore paste. Both are used in the chamber only.james r chapman wrote:How do you clean the chamber? with the lefthanded .25 caliber brush?

The spring as said will do nothing to help extraction. I would check the barrel for PLOP test. Take the barrel off and a CCI SV (CCI SV has a very heavy coating so they may not be the best for the POLP test. I used regular HV box bulk box ammo for my plop test) live round and hold the barrel chamber up. Drop the 22 round into the chamber, it should seat it's self with a plop sound. Then turn the barrel upside down (chamber down) the round should fall out on it's own.
I had three barrels, two out of the three failed this test and would not extract a round several times per magazine. I polished the chamber on the two that failed the test and now all three barrels function fine all the time. No more extraction problems.
I can shoot CCI SV (only shoot that to sight my red dots and scopes in with) and any other ammo so far. I only shoot steel plates at 25 yards, so precision one hole groups I do not need. I usually shoot High Velocity ammo. I like the 40 grain bullet so I usually shoot Remington Thunderbolts. But after polishing of the chambers my 41 shoots it all no problem. I do run a buffer and have a 8 pound spring. I do not use the spring but I do use the buffer.
Good luck on yours.

Actually....since it's a blowback design, the recoil spring has a lot to do with extraction.
My meager understanding leads me to believe that the extractor does more to control the direction of ejection than removal of the spent case.
I've been wrong before...often and forcefully.

As the spring compresses - it regulates whether the spent case travels far enough to impact the ejector. In the 41, the ejector is the inside front edge of the slide stop.STEVE SAMELAK wrote:Actually....since it's a blowback design, the recoil spring has a lot to do withextraction. ejection

You can run a well tuned 22 without the extractor until you want to remove an unspent round or a stuck case.

In a blowback gun, absolutely yes. The blowback actually *is* the extraction, and the extractor's job is to hold the brass to the face of the slide. This puts the brass in the right spot to hit the ejector, which flings it off in the proper direction.
A weak extractor can easily cause stovepipes, by allowing the brass to wobble off the face and land in the way of the closing slide. A strong recoil spring can do the same, by not letting the slide go far enough back, or slowing it down to where the brass doesn't fling. Bottom line, the powder load, chamber friction, recoil spring rate and extractor hook all work together, in strange and wonderful ways. Hopefully this new 41 is close to wonderful! Shoot the heck out of it before you start tuning too much.

New guy here that is also an owner of a new Custom Shop SW 41. I have been following this thread as I was awaiting delivery of the 41 this week. My experience with the CCI SV was a significant number of FTE. At times one in five. Today, while at the range, I took time to inspect the ammo a little and when I tried to dump the 50 rounds from a new box out of the plastic tray some rounds would not fall out. So I spread that 50 out on a micro fiber cloth, covered the rounds and rolled them side to side about six times applying light to moderate pressure. Not a FTE from the box. Fired 4 more boxes doing the same and no more FTE.
The person that mentioned he thought there was to much wax, thank you.
