Shockey 45
I have inhereited a 1911 45 built by Richard Shockey. Other than some paperwork identifying it is a shockey, the barrel bushing having a S stamped on it, the barrel plug has a spring type roller welded to and it rolls on the barrel. I would think its keep to tension on the barrel for lock-up.
A real pain to take apart and assemble. The gun is tight, great trigger, I believe micro sights, no weight system. Any info on Mr. shockey or his weapons would be greatly appreciated. Were they on the level of Jim Clark's, Chow? Not much online.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Re: Shockey 45
Greetings,
The roller brazed onto the recoil plug is the famous "Shockey MouseTrap".
I have one in my gun box for show and tell.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks very much for the info. Looks like he was pre-clark.

Greetings,
In the old Gil Hebard catalogs from the 1960's, both Jim Clark and Richard Shockey pistols were offered.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Shockey 45
I've seen/handled/worked on Shockeys that ranged from rattley loose to just right. I bought a Colt 45 Kit Gun earlier this year built by Shockey. I got lucky buying online without s chance to handle it in the flesh; best I've seen. Groups very well but does come out of battery fast like the older guns are known to do. I would put it equal to older early Clark pistols. I have Colt 38 Kit Gun by Clark that was built incredibly well.
So its a crap shoot. I have a Giles Kit Gun that I'm going to rebuild from ground up; wasn't impressed with it.
Pistol Shooters Treasury has Shockey in it I believe.

Jon,
I agree. It's a crap-shoot buying an old B-E gun sight unseen.
At least you don't have to pay anyone to fix them.

I have a Shockey 45 with the Bomar rib. It is an incredible 45. Only thing replaced was the barrel bushing.

Re: Shockey 45
Thank you all again for all your input. Brother-in-law shot in the Navy. The gun itself is in great condition, slide to frame is as my Clark, Barrel lock up is tight and trigger is at 3.5 lbs.
Pretty sure I will replace the BMT with a new barrel recoil lug.

Re: Shockey 45
I wish I had the extra funds to keep some of the old bullseye guns the came through my friend shop earlier this year, including the Shockey gun Jon mentioned above.
Also few of the Giles guns including a Giles high standard.........
