Powder puff loads got 160g .45?
First topic message reminder :
I load 2.8g BE with 148 g bullets in my Clark 38 special. Super mild recoil. I currently load 3.5 grains of Bullseye for 200 grain SWC for my 45, mild recoil and accurate at 25y. I’m wondering if anyone has tried a really powder puff load with the 160 g .45 swc? I’m thinking the coated Brazos bullet. Only for 25y and for practice.

Lots of great replies, thanks all. I’m definitely gonna order some of the 160s and see how low I can go (lol). I’ve got a 10 lb spring in my RO, with a Kart barrel. Might even try a 9 lb spring? I’ll post when I get some results.

Richard, can you point me to that thread, I couldn't find it. In this thread https://www.bullseyeforum.net/t13371-question-on-n310 guys seem to be doing fine with the Brazos coated and N310.

I loaded 100 rounds of the 160gr Brazos, with 4.0 of titegroup. The cases are not ejecting fully and get caught by the slide. I am running a 13lb spring. Slide mounted optics, Les Baer gun. This is my first try with the 160gr bulletts. I crimped them to .463, as per other posts. I normally use their 185/180 gr. bullets. Same power load but those I crimp at .469.
Is the tighter crimp the cause? I did not think I needed to use a different spring. Thanks for any suggestions.

The tighter crimp helps build pressure which is good thing. Try a 11 or 12# recoil spring and see if the cases eject. My powder puff 180 loads land on the bench.

Don't push it, my doctor who shoots action pistol told me not to push the 45 even though I already shot softball loads. I shot 22 only for a couple of matches then added the 45 about 6 weeks after surgery. I didn't feel any pain BUT my wrist didn't like it and I developed a flinch. It took me 6 months to get rid of it and it still comes back once in a while.Richard Benoit wrote:Further testing will have to wait about a month until I recover from surgery, Richard

I spent quite a lot of time working up a recipe with Brazos 160 hitec over N310. It is documented in this thread:-
Lies, Damn Lies, and Chrono results!
Sorry, couldn't figure out how to cut/paste a link using my phone.

crimp!!
I think you would have to use a serious tubing cutter to crimp a .45 that tight...might want to become a multiple projectile round.james r chapman wrote:Now that’s a crimp!!!!!!Deerspy wrote:160 wax lube 3.6 Clays .365 crimp, SA RO 12 recoil spring 20 mainspring , short line.

160 gr powder puff loads
I couldn't find it again either , it may have been in a thread discussing the differences between HI-Tek and powder coated bullets. Soon I'll have more time on my hands (or one good hand) , I'll look again.Aprilian wrote:Richard Benoit wrote:In an earlier post on this subject, it was mentioned that N310 was not an appropriate powder to use with coated bullets. I found it in the thread"what does Tite-Group really excel at ",4/22/19 , seems out of place in the middle of the threadAprilian wrote:Richard Benoit wrote:In an earlier post on this subject, it was mentioned that N310 was not an appropriate powder to use with coated bullets.
