Powder for 230 grain FMJ 45 loads
I have used w231 for both my 185 grain lead swc bulleye loads and for full power 230 grain FMJ loads and Bulleye for my 185 grain bulleye loads. I would like to just have one powder for my 38 special and my 45 loads. Would Bulleye be an ok choice for my 230 grain FMJ loads. I do see it as one of the powders listed in my Speer manuals .
thanks

Sure. It has worked for many years as a 230 “Hardball” powder. There’s tons of data out there.

Hello troystaten,
With Hornady FMJ-RN bullets and Winchester WLP primers:
Try 4.5 to 4.7 grains for around 790 feet per second....very accurate.
I've gone as low as 4.0 grains.
Let your guns choose the load they like.

Thanks Jim, these are for my Springfield XD, it has pretty stout springs, this gun does not like my 185 grain powder puff loads or Federal 185 grain swc gold medal match factory loads. Eats up the full power factory loads though. This gun is very happy with the 230 grain FMJ's with 5.7 grains of 231 but I would like to limit the number of powders I have on hand.

5.0 grains of Bullseye is the standard for Ball ammo.

Thanks David, my Speer #12 manual shows 5.2 grains on the low side and 5.7 on the high side.

I use 3.8 BE 230 Jen for service pistol now that powder puffs are allowed.
