9mm Ransom Rest Tests
A couple of years ago I built a full custom 9mm using one of the then new Clark 10-twist barrels. The idea was to develop a 9mm gun/load combo that mimics the ballistics of the 38Sp wadcutter load. Doing that required 147gr bullets at about 700-750fps, hence the choice of a 10-twist barrel. That worked out ok, as shown by one of the test groups below using my bullseye load. For these current tests I put a heavier recoil spring in place and shot some full power loads using both Atlanta Arms ammo and some reloads. All targets were shot at 50yds and are shown with an X-ring/10-ring overlay. The gun, by the way, is currently shown in my Avatar. I apologize for the improper rotation of one of the pics; I couldn't find a way to rotate it once inserted.

Thank you for your results. Thinking about the same idea. Have you tried Silhouette?

Several loads are 10-ring capable at 50 yards in a great pistol! Awesome.
I'm reminded of the videos that Accuracy-X posts that show 1" groups at 50 yards. Anyone know what load they're using?

I can't find a 9mm with 110 grain bullets on their website, just 100 and 115 grain in that weight range. Anyone know about their 110 grain load?james r chapman wrote:generally Atlanta Arms 110 gr loads..S148 wrote:Several loads are 10-ring capable at 50 yards in a great pistol! Awesome.

Re: 9mm Ransom Rest Tests
The AA 110gr load is gone. They stopped a couple of years ago. Steve had a "test" lot of it. But Atlanta didn't produce it fully for the public.
Re: 9mm Ransom Rest Tests
I FOUND THE MOST ACCURATE 147GR LOAD AT 50YDS WERE THE FOLLOWING.. RANSOM REST TESTED IN MANY CUSTOM 1911's ( ROCK RIVER ARMS, TONY KIDD, SAMS), S&W PPC9's. ACCURACY WAS AROUND 1 INCH ON GOOD GUNS AND 1.75 INCH ON THE OTHER END .
147GR XTP 4.2 GR VV330, FED SP, NEW STARLINE BRASS, OAL 1.142"
147GR XTP 4.0 GR WW WSF, FED SP, NEW STARLINE BRASS, OAL 1.142"
THE XTP BULLET A 50 YDS WAS THE MOST ACCURATE OF ALL. EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT. IT'S A BOAT TAIL BULLET. FOR THE SHORT LINE HORNADY SELLS IN BULK A BOAT TAIL 147GR FMJ. IDEAL FOR THE SHORT LINE. THE HORNADY 147GR FMJ USES THE SAME JACKET MATERIAL AS THE XTP. NO BARREL FOULING ISSUES WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN THE 2 BULLETS. THE 147GR FMJ GROUPED ABOUT 2.5" AT 50YDS.
NEW BRASS AT 50YDS, ANY BRASS FOR THE SHORT LINE.

Re: 9mm Ransom Rest Tests
Have you tried 5.3 CFEPISTOL with a 115 grain? That shot very well for me in short range pistols.

Bigtrout,
COL data is as follows:
- 125 Sierra load -- 1.144
- 147 with CFEP load -- 1.098
- 147 with BE load -- 1.065
- Atl Arms 115 FMJ -- 1.106
- Atl Arms 147 JHP -- 1.099
Wobbley, I have not shot any CFEP with 115gr bullets yet.
