.38SPL plop test?

Familiar with the plop test for .22 rimfire, but does that test apply to a S&W Model 52-2?
Should a wadcutter round easily drop in and out of the chamber?

Could you determine what was wrong with the original extractor?

Yes, although the hook of the extractor seemed to hold the round statically, during firing it would not.
Close inspection shows that most of the hook had broke off.
