Question for conversion experts
Can a Nelson or Marvel conversion be fired without the top rib on? Since the slide is retained by the frame rails and the barrel is locked on to the slidestop via the guide rod, I don't see why not. Anyone know for sure or try it before?

Yes you can fire it without the rib mounted on the pistol.

Re: Question for conversion experts
Mark,
I have seen a number of 1911 NRA AP guns which had the barricade shroud using Marvels without the sight or scope rail. They would not clear the shroud channel. It's not reciprocating mass, so I would think it is OK.

The newer conversions (Marvel and Nelson) are similar to the Kart conversions. Before Dworak made Kart optic shrouds you'd see Weaver bases mounted directly to the Kart barrel; iron sight shroud removed.
