WTB 44-40 brass 10 or 20 cases
This is an obsolete catridge. A source on the internets states that this cartridge can be re-loaded using:
44-40 brass, 1/3 oz of #7 shot,6.8 grs of Unique power using curent 44-40 dies,#150 primers,
Have sent email to Speer asking if they still offer 44 caliber Speer shot capsules, answer pending.
Please reply off board to ardichharris1@sbcglobal.net
and thank you for any help with this project.

You may find that using Speer's plastic shot capsules with the 44-40 cartridge to be problematic due to its slightly bottle-necked case shape and the length of the capsule. Many years ago; I tried to make that combination work, but never achieved much success.albertrichard123 wrote:This is an obsolete catridge. Hi ARH-
I tried e-mailing to the address that you listed in your message, but it bounced back. Anyway, here's the content of the message:
I don’t have the data in front of me, but I remember that I had to run the .44/40 cartridge up into a .41 magnum die to straighten out the upper part of the case so that the Speer shot cartridge would be held snugly in the case. It seems to me like using 6.8 grains of Unique may be a little hot and may cause the shot to spread too much.
I had good luck using #9 nickel-plated shot and a slightly lower powder charge. They are a lot of fun to shoot!
Hope that helps,
Bill
