Standard Federal Small Pistol Primers vs Magnum
Anyone have any experience with these 2 different primers from Federal. I usually load for .32 wadcutter using the standard primers and I've been very happy with the results. With all the shortages on ammo and supplies I was lucky enough to find the Federal Magnums on a shelf, so I grabbed them. I'm just wondering what I should expect.

In 9mm, I have found very little difference between standard and magnum primers in terms of velocity gains.

As long as your not loading near the maximum powder charge you will be fine but magnum primers are designed for slower powders, they burn hotter and for a longer period so do some testing before loading a whole bunch.

That's what I figured on doing. I'm using BE powder. ThanksDavidR wrote:As long as your not loading near the maximum powder charge you will be fine but magnum primers are designed for slower powders, they burn hotter and for a longer period so do some testing before loading a whole bunch.

I use WSPM primers with 2.8gr Bullseye under a Rem 148gr LHBWC in my M52-1
Bullseye can be a dirty powder, but with the magnum primer and a light bullseye shooting load it is accurate and clean burning.
For what it is worth.
