Quarantine woes
Anyone else have a new or new to them gun sitting somewhere that they can't get to because of the covid crap?
Thought it could be fun to see what people are waiting on.
I have a new to me Pardini GT45 sitting in wait at my lgs. One of these weeks I'll be able to go free her!

Re: Quarantine woes
I've been selling unused BE gear to fund this used custom Anschutz 1913 benchrest rifle, was built by the late Bill Myers. Has a custom milled sleeved action with integrated rail, Shilen coned breach barrel with tuner and custom bedded stock. Just put a 15-60x Vortex Golden Eagle scope on it with Kelbly rings.
Where I'm getting screwed by the current gun craze is the front rest. I bought a Sinclair competition front rest off GB 2 full weeks ago and it still hasn't shipped. I'm getting a bit antsy to say the least. I also need to get some Eley Tenex ordered so I can feed this thing.

Yeah I made it from white oak. The top was a PITA to glue up all at one time. Luckily I work in a huge cabinet shop so was able to run it through a wide belt sander to flatten and smooth instead of doing by hand.

Is PA, your county, city or your LGS causing the the closure? Trump has said that gun dealers are an essential business.
If your LGS made the decision to close during this time then that is certainly their right to do so.

Re: Quarantine woes
At first Gov Wolf made them all close. Then he realized he couldn't do that and reopened them. My lgs decided it was best for his staff to remain closed. They decided to start doing "by appointments" this upcoming week and they filled up in something like 6 mins haha. No biggie. I'll get it when I get it. Not like I'm going shooting anytime soon. I support my lgs in their decisions to close. Honestly I probably would have closed myself.

Re: Quarantine woes
As for me in central Missouri our gun shops are all open they just don't have anything and aren't getting much stock back in the doors. Delivery and shipping has been a big problem for them. I sold a few long guns and a pistol 2 weeks ago to my local dealer just to free up some gun safe room. It helped me out and gave him at least some stock to fill a few of his emtpy rack spaces. He sold 3 of the 5 in just 3 days. Things are crazy out there. Our Governor just ordered a state wide stay at home order last night at 5 PM that goes into effect at midnight Sunday through 24 April. Guess I will now have to stay at home, load some ammunition, clean some guns and mount some new scopes on some long guns.

Don't have any new guns, have reloaded almost every piece of brass I own and can't go to the range, this sucks.

Brother I have done the same thing as you! Today should have been center fire day at the Dixie Match! I should have had a 50-80 point lead going into 45! But Nooooooo!troystaten wrote:Don't have any new guns, have reloaded almost every piece of brass I own and can't go to the range, this sucks.

I've also been focusing on reloading. Ran out of titegroup, which I use for 9mm, so using up some of my oddball pounds with new loads.

Re: Quarantine woes
I have a PC40 sitting here unfired. I have changed dots on it 3 times thinking about what would be best. Aimpoint 9000 was more dot then I need for a 40 cal. Valdada looks super neat on there but single mount point limits position to right over extractor. Sightron S33-4R looks good and 4 reticle choices are handy... But, the rings never really got tight on the scope. I think I can solve that with a couple of minutes on a belt sander on the lip of the rings so they can have more movement before they bottom out. It is also tempting to put a real scope on it. I have a lot of brass I can still reload. Not sure I will ever need more 30 Carbine, 300 Savage, 300 H&H, 338-378, 218 Bee, 257 Roberts, 300 WSM, 30-40 Craig, 348, 35 Rem, I do have 3-400 22 Hornet and 41 Mag I could load. I also have some new boxes of 45 Auto Rim to play with. I will probably get to it after I re-read everything David Weber ever wrote.

Re: Quarantine woes
Len,
I could use some .38-56, .40-82, .32-44 S&W, not to mention .442 Bulldog if you get some free time.
I'm "expendably essential"

Re: Quarantine woes
Sorry Jim, close but no cigar. I have some 38/55 and 32/40. I guess I also have some 375 "big bore" around here. I bet it would work for 38/56. Fire formed.
Still bored

"Custom Anschutz 1913 benchrest rifle" is looking good! My latest venture in that direction is a 1957 Winchester 52C and a 1955 BALVAR 6-24. Looks like I need to upgrade my bench! I need some Tenex too...

Re: Quarantine woes
Just finished processing about 2000 223/5.56 brass. Once I load them up I'll get started on a butt load of shotgun shells for trap. It never ends.

Re: Quarantine woes
Plenty of loaded rounds, plenty of components on hand, 2k+ processed and primed brass. I just can’t rationalize building more ammo when I am not firing any.
Sucks not to be able to shoot the new SARO lower with new trigger job on my conversion.
But the family is healthy and only one job loss so far, so lots of people have it far worse - so I probably shouldn’t complain about my first world problems.
stay healthy and sane ....

Re: Quarantine woes
I made the "BIG" decision to go with the Valdada. Those large windage and elevation turrets made the choice for me. Now when my Warden lets me out again I can play with the whole 40 cal suite.
A. BUG- M&P Shield 40 S&W
B. Carry- SA XDM 40 S&W I need a new picture. All the clutter is stripped off.
C. Carbine- Ruger PC40 40S&W
See the plan here...

Re: Quarantine woes
Hey Len, after you finish with Weber, Ya might look at John Ringo.

Re: Quarantine woes
Good idea. After I finish off Weber I can re-read everything of John Ringo's. Maybe by then he can finish off a couple of series that he has left us poor readers out there dangling. This all ties in to Bullseye in case anyone is wondering. David Weber's main Heroine is Honor Harrington. Honors weapon of choice is a 1911A1 which she shoots Bullseye. Just a couple 1000 years in the future.

Re: Quarantine woes
Not Bullseye related at all, but one of Weber's other "series" deals with automated fighting units. Which are large, heavily armed, and deal with all sorts of issues. Many relating to dealing with people, "bugs" (of the germ and viral kind), and other "bugs" (of the alien kind). Actually, Weber continued the work of Keith Laumer, when he assumed "control" of the "Bolo" series of books. They're fun reading, BTW.LenV wrote:After I finish off Weber I can re-read everything of John Ringo's. Re: Quarantine woes
Jealous. I bought a Q5 Match shortly after they came out. Love the pistol.
However, shooting in CF/Service Pistol I have found I have to concentrate very hard on the trigger pull and maintaining a firm grip for Rapid Fire in particular.
Backing of a little on the trigger caused a couple of unintentional double taps.
