Personal Messaging - question Empty Personal Messaging - question

Post by Guest Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:56 pm

Hope that someone can tell me - if my PM Inbox gets full how are new incoming messages handled?

Does the system automatically delete the oldest message and make room for the new message - or what?

I suspect that a couple of incoming PM's have "bounced" cause I get the email alert, but then when I go check my Inbox there is nothing new there? This might be simply because there is some kind of time lag in the alert system such that I might have already read and possibly deleted the new message before I received the alert.

Help please.

I believe older messages are automatically deleted and new messages will keep coming in. I get a lot of messages and change to emailing so I can keep a record.

Your box holds fifty messages if I recall.  Once it is at capacity, new PMs sent to you will be returned to the sender as undeliverable because your mailbox is full.

You must manually clean out your old messages to make room for new ones.  Old messages are not auto deleted to make room for new ones.

You can also directly email the user you wish to contact, if they have the option enabled.  If it is not enabled, you may have to resort to posting a message in the forum asking them to clear their mailbox or asking them to contact you via email, etc.

As Jon has pointed out, switching to email after establishing contact via PM works best for conversations you want to keep long term.

The PM system is designed for quick contact, not long term storage.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have other questions.
