1911 ignition - Ingenious Gun Works ???
Guys, I stumbled onto this one by chance and it left me...stumbled. Anyone know about this setup? First time seeing this variation of ignition components, looks completely different yet supposedly works as a 1911 drop in. I am no guinea pig though

I think I'd need to see a 3D model animated to understand how they relate to each other.
Since they already have cad dwgs to produce the parts it would probably boost their sales.
Just sayin

The big change is to the sear to change the engagement point. The typical sear engages the full-cock notch on the hammer with the tip of the sear. The tip of the sear is also used to catch the half-cock notch, if needed.
On this one, it looks like they've reconfigured things by making the sear "fatter" and engaging the full-cock notch with the sear's "belly". The tip of the sear instead is only used to catch the half-cock notch, if needed.
Is it better? Hard to say without trying it out. I wonder about the added mass of the sear.

There’s bad info in the description.
It says made from 4140 Stainless Steel. 4140 isn’t stainless steel. 440 is a stainless steel that comes in 3 sub types. 440A! 440B, and 440C. Of these 440C would be the best choice for this application. I have no idea what it is made from. Wire EDM gets them the blank parts. They still need stoning and honing.

AISI 4140 steel is a low alloy steel containing chromium, molybdenum, and manganese. It is widely used across numerous industries and is an excellent material choice due to its toughness, high fatigue strength, and abrasion and impact resistance.

True, but 1% chrome isn't stainless, but is a good sear material if hardened properly...

That spring loaded bushing is also an interesting idea. I know there have been many different takes on 1911s in general, these are interesting and fairly unique.

Collet was not a favored solution by many. Seems like people tried to get rid of them due to fingers. This one is all solid but uses wire for barrel hold. Not a bad idea. I wonder how it holds up to real stress of gun firing.

Can someone please educate me and perhaps some pics on how this "mousetrap" works? I heard of it but cannot find any links that actually demonstrate this setup.Wobbley wrote:Sounds like the old Shockey “mousetrap”?
