.451 to .452 185 FP 45acp
Probably a silly question. I have been reloading 185gr 45acp xtreme Bullets (.451). I was given 1000 berry played 185gr that are .452. I loaded 3 just to see and the bullet is loose in the case. What adjustment needs to be made? Crimp?
Thanks in advance

Low end is too much crimp for plated bullets, IMO. Should be similar to jacketed. 0.467" - 0.470", just enough to see imprint on the bullet when you pull it out.
I wonder if you used cases that were not resized after being shot for testing. I'd definitely look into case sizing first before making crimp adjustments. Otherwise I fail to find explanation why .451 is tight and .452 is not!

Not all lead alloys used are the same hardness. Some that are pure lead will be sized smaller by taper crimping too much.
Pure lead will not spring back, after sizing, as much as hard alloys.
Brass will spring back a lot more then pure lead. This can & will leave a bullet loose in the case.
When sizing down a thick jacketed rifle bullet more then .005" , that has a lead core, the core becomes loose and spins at different speeds, compared to the jackets.
2 things, check expander diameter, may need to be .450"/.451" (smaller) in diameter.
The 45 acp fl sizer may need replaced with a Lee "Undersize die.? Gives the expander something to expand.

1) stop using plated bullets if looking for accuracy.
2) Always, always, alway do a push test after seating every bullet (push down with thumb or finger pressure and reject and round where the bullet moves). Straight wall cases do NOT hold the bullet with CRIMP but with case tension.
3) What is ID of expanded case? Should be 0.001-0.002" smaller than actual bullet diameter.
