Zero 38 Spec. with Bullseye Powder
I am trying to load Zero 38 Spec. 158 Gr. JSP ( Jacket Soft Point) with Bullseye Powder and can not find any Data. I called Zero Co. & E-Mailed them, no answer. I called Alliant Powder Co. they did not have data for Zero Bullets.
I will be using Bullets in a S&W Model 60 with a 2" Barrel and in a Ruger Blackhawk .357. Old Sierra book says 3.6 to 4.9 Gr. That does not seem right. Can you give me any advice?

Hello josephvarajon,
I have heard that you will have a hard time finding any .38 Special loading for a 158 jacketed bullet (of any flavor) using Alliant Bullseye in any "current" book. Supposedly, it doesn't yield acceptable/safe pressures.
As an aside, I have seen stuck bullets twice with people attempting this loading. Use Alliant Unique, or something with a similar burn/pressure pattern, instead.

Hercules 1990 shows 3.5 (805 fps) grains for a 160 JSP.
Hornady shows 3.4 (600fps) Bullseye to 4.2 (750fps) for Max and 4.5 (800fps) for +P using a 158 grain XTP.
I have been reloading for over 30 years. Always had a 38. IN MY MIND. Its always been 4 grains of bullseye, 5 grains of Unique as max for a 158 grain 38 special. I also never believed Velocity of Hercules.

The question is, can you find data for jacketed 158gn bullets? If so, you have loading data.
No body has specific data for Zero, Precision Delta, or other company bullets not one of the Big Five bullet/ammo companies.
Start at the start load and work up or down depending on your need (for some, they need a lighter load than the starting load, so they work DOWN).
Bullseye and .38 Spl are about as "married" as Bulleye and .45 Auto.

Re: Zero 38 Spec. with Bullseye Powder
Thanks for the info. I have several books in my 50 years of loading and there is nothing for 158 JSP with bullseye powder with any brand of bullets. I have tried 3.6-3.7-3.8 & 3.9 with no pressure signs. 3.8 Gr. gives me the best accuracy. I am going to crono 3.8 and check the velocity if i get in the 750 to 850 range i think that would do it. However i do not feel confitent shooting these in a S&W model 60 with a 2 in barrel
