22 ammo in cooler weather
How do you shooters deal with the 22 ammo issues that appear in cooler or cold weather? The issues for me are sluggish cycling, failure to extract, failure to feed with ammo that works perfectly in summer weather.
I love my Kart conversions in the summer but they can be frustrating with cycling issues as the temperature starts to drop. I am going to break out my Hi Standard.

I'll put the ammo and the gun (in a black case) in the passenger footwell and blow heat on them while I drive to my winter league. In my state with a CCW this is perfectly legal, you have to check yours.
Waxy ammo does not feed well in the gun when it is cold. My pistol likes Norma TAC22, but in cold weather I'll switch to CCI SV.

It won't be cheap, but have you considered ammo for another discipline? Winter biathalon requires ammo which goes bang at temperatures well below zero (*F). Not sure if this stuff cycles semiautos, but might be worth looking at. FYI, Eley, SK, and Lapua make cold weather ammo, believe Fiocci does as well.

I keep my filled magazines in my pocket with my off hand until ready to be inserted for a string. I return the empty magazines to a different pocket to keep them warm between uses and not mix them with filled ones. I've never kept the ammo separate within a pocket.

I have a wire rack above the wood stove in my workshop/range. Guns work perfectly!
The key is to keep things reasonably warm any way you can. Just wait. In a few weeks you’ll start hearing the pistol’s malfunctioning complaints. Happens every year.

I need a hot water bottle or heating pad for my Kart. There are 110 outlets at the range. Would a heating pad be a valid reason for other shooters to complain about unfair advantage? :-)

I have used disposable hand warmers to keep the gun warm. I have also been known to shoot in a heated sweatshirt.

I have seen you wearing that heated jacket. I think that is an unfair advantagechiz1180 wrote:I have used disposable hand warmers to keep the gun warm. I have also been known to shoot in a heated sweatshirt.

That's what I do (also the cartridge box). Typically, my shirt pocket under my vest or jacket.

I heard they'll be having a Senior Class for guns over 65 years old.8eightring wrote:I need a hot water bottle or heating pad for my Kart. There are 110 outlets at the range. Would a heating pad be a valid reason for other shooters to complain about unfair advantage? :-)

I have no doubt that keeping it in your pocket will work during the Georgia winter.jglenn21 wrote:I too simply put loaded mags in my pockets.. no problems

Re: 22 ammo in cooler weather
I used to shoot 22 rifle years ago with a guy that would keep his ammo in a small lunch cooler if it was real hot or very cold outside.
I do the same in the winter and toss in a hand warmer if it is super cold, but that kind of weather is rare in Alabama.
