38 super bullets in 9MM
Does anyone have any experience using .356" diameter jacketed bullets in the 9MM Luger instead of the .355" diameter jacketed bullets. Did you run into any pressure problems? How does the accuracy compare between the two diameters?

I tried .356 125gr HAP in my S&W 986 5" and SA RO 5". The revolver yielded tighter groups by 1" avg, at 50 vs .355 115 HAP. The 1911 was not as tightly grouped as .355 115gr at 25. The results are with a Hyskore rest and tw0-hand hold. The 986 has a 1:10 twist and the RO 1:16. My .356 loads are Blazer brass, 4.9gr CFE and 1.12 COL. Still tinkering but the recipe is the best to date.

You can run .356 bullets in your 9mm. In fact, you can run .357 and .358 bullets, too, if the rounds will fit in the chamber. Barrel specifications for 9mm and 38 Super are exactly the same; 0.355" + 0.004" groove diameter.
There should be no change in pressure. See the link below and post #8 for a pressure test of oversize bullets;
Jake says later in that thread that the barrel measured .355, so this is a good example of oversize bullets not increasing pressure.

Accuracy will depend on the exact bullet, powder and what your gun likes.

The Beretta and Walther 9mm barrels I have, have groove diameters that are about .3575". Lead bullets that are .356" will give lots of Leading.

I shot some of those .356" bullets today in a 1911 9MM with a Jarvis barrel. They shot extremely well offhand. When I get more time I will try them off sandbags at 50 yds. The rounds that I did shoot showed no signs of higher pressure.

I have used both 125 grain 355 ad 356 HAP in two of my 1911 9mm. I saw no difference.
Last I saw, .356 had been discontinued.

Hornady shows the 125 HAP .356 discontinued in their manual, but if my memory is correct, I asked them about it and they said that information was wrong. They're still around, and Midway has some in stock right now.

The link below shows them as .354 diameter which I suspect is an error since Hornady does not show any .354 bullets on their website.

That said, the manufacturer's number on Midway's site is #35572A which differs from Hornady's #355721.

So, not sure why the discrepancies. Hornady does have different #s for the 500 count (355721) versus the 3,000 count (35572B) quantities.

I sent an email to Midway asking about their diameter.

Midway responded saying, "I forwarded the information to our web team so they can look into it." If they update this I'll post it here.
Now they have them for sale 20% off.

Re: 38 super bullets in 9MM
I noticed this thread in a forum where a person ordered the Hornady 125 HAP .354" bullets, and they measured 0.354"! Surprising!
