Range Brass Price? Empty Range Brass Price?

Post by shoot308 3/20/2013, 9:06 am

A friend of mine is starting a cast bullet company and has stumbled into a large quantity of range brass. Most appears to be once fired. I am trying to help him out and was tasked with coming up with some prices and would like my fellow shooters opinions. He bought a commercial tumbler so it will be all cleaned and packaged in lots of 1000. With the current status of the market he wants to be fair but still needs to make a profit and the scrap price of brass is pretty good right now. Here are my thoughts, please let me know your opinions. Also, please dont message me about it I will let you guys know before it gets released to general public so you get first crack.
45 - $120/1000
38- $100/1000
40- $70/1000
9 and 380- 60/1000
How does these numbers look?
Thanks
Brian

Range Brass Price? Empty Re: Range Brass Price?

OK, heres my opinions on it, 12cents for a used 45 is high, ive bought new starline for that, what head stamps are they, if mixed has he sorted out all the crappy new brass with small primers? Id say fair is 6-9 cents if of a good brands. As to the small primer stuff, worthless imo, but some might by it for a few cents for practice. As to the other calibers, over priced as well. At gunshows you can buy any caliber of mixed range brass, cleaned for 60.00 per K. With some idiots paying 12.50 + for 2.00 22 ammo, he might gouge people for awhile till everything gets back to normal, if just making a profit is his goal.

Those are some high prices. A nickle for once fired 45 is the norm in my area of the world. You can ask more if it's cleaned and sorted by headstamp.

For instance I need some R-P nickle plated brass which is hard to come by. Being a bit OC I load my 185gr loads into nickle plated brass and my 200 grainers into brass colored brass.

So if you sorted out a bunch of nickle R-P I'd be interested in paying your price but certainly not for unsorted and not cleaned brass.

Hi Brian, My experience is the same as David R's; I last paid $60.00
for 1000 deprimed and cleaned, 45 acp brass. I'd say your firiend's
prices are 100% more than what others are asking.

Yup, same story here. Prices are about double gun show prices and gun show prices are usually high.

I agree with David R I can get 1000 45 acp sorted for $72 including shipping. I just paid $80 for 1000 nickel 45 acp. I just bought 1000 9mm for $40. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input, that is exactly what was wanted. I am a new pistol shooter and never bought any brass just stuff I collected over the years shooting high power rifle.
