S&W 52-2 hammer block lever
I am sure someone has or can point me to instructions
on how to detail strip the slide on an S&W 52.
Doing this will allow slide removal from the frame using
the bridge mount I have.
If I can remove the hammer block and assemble with the slide
on the frame then removal of the rear sight is simple.
Thanks, G

Or try this one, it may help

You may have to take that frame mount off.

Re: S&W 52-2 hammer block lever
If the question is how to remove the "safety" completely from the rear of the Model 52 Slide, Don from the S&W Forum made a video for me showing how it's done on a Model 39, and he told me the Model-52 is pretty much the same. It's not on YouTube or anything - if you look through the discussions about fixing my Model 52 you'll find it, and I made my own copy of the video.
Let me know if this is what you need, and I can try to attach it here.
To do this, the slide needs to be off the gun, so maybe this isn't what you are looking for?

Mustachio may have hit on it.
depress the mag and other lock outs and then press in the firing pin.
slide the lever out.
I'll try that.

If I did everything right, this will take you to a short video of how to remove the safety on a S&W Model 39.
The safety on the Model 52 is removed basically the same way:
http://www.sgrid.com/2020/video/ ....then click on the MP4 file, or download it.
If you don't need it, others might find it useful.
Don (who used to assemble Model 52s at S&W) made the video to show me how it's done.

Gary, remember, the Model 39 is similar to the Model 52, but not identical.
The general idea of how things come apart is the same.
I took mine apart inside a very large turkey cooking bag from Publix, so if parts went flying, they couldn't go far.
After seeing the video, I had no problems. Before seeing the video, I was lost.
If it helps you too, go to the S&W forum and leave a thank-you for Don. He made the video because it was too difficult for him to describe it to me.
Good luck!

If anyone wants their own copy of the video, just install "4K Video Downloader". It's an app you can install in a computer.
Most people use it for saving YouTube videos, which I guess people aren't supposed to do, but......
I think this is where I got it: https://www.4kdownload.com/downloads

Good news /Bad news
Well I got around to removing the safety/hammer block lever
from the slide using Mike's instruction video.
It was helpful however I found the internal plunger was on the
right side and thought for a while I had lost the spring however it
had stayed in the hole in the slide.
This was a good exercise to learn about the slide internals
anyway.
However, after removing the lever and rear sight I found
that the slide still will not pass through the bridge mount.
The slide is not rounded all the way and has square corners
at the rear sight area that prevents passing through the mount.
After cleaning the pistol and assembling the slide I reinstalled
the mount and will see how much adjustment it needs to
be back to zero.
Thanks for the help anyway!
